- • आग्रहाचे निमंत्रण is the strong form: Molesworth's 1857 dictionary (p. 63) glosses आग्रह as 'urgent invitation or earnest pressing'.
- • स्नेहांकित before your name is the Marathi 'yours affectionately' (Molesworth p. 876); a society committee signs आपले नम्र instead.
- • A society card should go out by 9 October 2026 (28 September 2027) so passes can be collected before night one.
- • 48.3% of SubhSandesh page views are on a phone, so keep the date, time and venue in the top half of the card.

Dandiya Invitation in Marathi: Society, Bhondla and Puja Wordings
A dandiya invitation in Marathi (दांडिया निमंत्रण) opens with a register phrase such as आग्रहाचे निमंत्रण or सस्नेह निमंत्रण, names who is inviting (society committee, mandal or family), gives the night, वेळ (time) and स्थळ (venue), adds dress code and pass collection, and closes with the inviter's name. Two of our own numbers shape it. 48.3% of SubhSandesh pages are opened on a phone, so the card must read on one WhatsApp screen. And in our Raksha Bandhan data, the nearest festival measurement we have and not a Navratri figure, 49.4% of pages were built on the festival day itself, which is too late for a society that needs passes collected. Below: 7 original wordings in Devanagari, romanised Marathi and English, register choices checked against Molesworth's Marathi dictionary, and a card layout.
What goes into a Marathi dandiya invitation?
A Marathi dandiya invitation is a short card or message asking people to a dandiya or garba night during नवरात्र (Navratri). It has six parts: occasion line, opening phrase, inviter, date-time-venue block, practical lines, and sign-off.
Both Marathi words for it are old and correct. Molesworth's 1857 A Dictionary, Marathi and English glosses निमंत्रण (nimantraṇa) as "inviting; an invitation" on page 467, and आमंत्रण on page 72 as "a call or summons" and "an invitation". This page uses निमंत्रण so the cards match.
Sharad Navratri 2026 runs from Sunday 11 October to Monday 19 October, with Dussehra on Tuesday 20 October. In 2027 it runs from 30 September to 8 October, with Dussehra on 9 October (Drik Panchang, New Delhi).
Which register: आग्रहाचे, सस्नेह or स्नेहांकित?
Register sits in three places: opening phrase, verb and sign-off.
- आग्रहाचे निमंत्रण (āgrahāche nimantraṇ, "a pressing invitation"). Molesworth's second sense of आग्रह is "earnest solicitation: also urgent invitation or earnest pressing", page 63. Use it when you genuinely want people there.
- सस्नेह निमंत्रण (sasneh nimantraṇ, "an invitation with affection"). सस्नेह has no headword in the 1857 dictionary, so we cannot date it from there. Its root स्नेह is glossed "affection, attachment, fondness, friendship, love" on page 876. Treat it as later card register, warm and safe.
- स्नेहांकित (snehāṅkit) before your name. The same page calls it "a term used in epistles before the writer's own name", the Marathi "yours affectionately". It suits family cards; a committee signs आपले नम्र ("yours humbly").
The verb carries the rest. आपण अवश्य यावे (āpaṇ avashya yāve) is the formal "please do come"; नक्की या is polite and warm; नक्की ये is intimate, for one friend or partner. A 2024 Rupkatha Journal study of the Marathi address term माउली found its honorific level depends on the accompanying verb, much like a T/V distinction; 72 of its 83 Pandharpur Wari pilgrims (86.74%) used the term in both directions, and 46.94% of responses tied it to politeness and respect. On a card, one wrong verb ending undoes a polite opening.

Gloss: "[Name], will you be my dandiya partner this Navratri? Just say yes; I'll bring the passes." होशील and म्हण are intimate forms, for someone you already call तू.
How should a Marathi dandiya card be laid out?
A committee card runs top to bottom in six blocks: occasion line (॥ नवरात्रोत्सव ॥), opening phrase, inviter, date-time-venue, practical lines, then sign-off with a smaller सौजन्य sponsor line. Keep date-time-venue in the top half: 48.3% of our page views happen on a phone, and that half is what shows without scrolling.
Mumbai and Pune societies are often mixed-language, so add one English line for neighbours who do not read Devanagari. Use one numeral system per card; ७.३० and 7.30 on the same card invite mistakes.
Print only an end time your society's permission confirms; we found no verifiable Maharashtra-specific source on loudspeaker hours, so this page gives none.
Committee card, WhatsApp reminder, printed card or page: lead times compared
The four formats differ in reach and lead time.
| Format | Reaches | Send by (2026) | What our data says |
|---|---|---|---|
| Committee card as a WhatsApp image | Every flat, one post | 9 Oct | 48.3% of SubhSandesh views are on a phone: design portrait |
| Two-line WhatsApp reminder | People already in the group | 10 Oct | 49.4% of Raksha Bandhan pages were built on the day (analogue) |
| Printed card on the notice board | Elders without smartphones | Before 11 Oct | None measured |
| Be My Dandiya Partner page | One person | Any night up to 19 Oct | 38.5% of creators password-protect their page |
Group invitations need lead time because passes and food are counted; a one-person invite can go out on the night.
Asking one person: what the Be My Dandiya Partner page does
For wording 7 there is a page version. Be My Dandiya Partner takes nine short lines, one per night, up to six photos, and the date, time, venue and dress code. The recipient clashes dandiya sticks to open an envelope, lights nine diyas, picks the colour they will twirl in, and gets a 1080×1920 Dandiya Pass sized for an Instagram Story. Its No button gives up after five tries and becomes a second Yes.
Two plain limits. The interface is in English; you can type your own lines, but check how Devanagari looks in the preview before publishing. And it is one-to-one: the wrong tool for a society card, a Bhondla or a ghatasthapana invite. It does not sell garba passes or find anyone a partner.
If the plan is dinner after the dance, a date invitation page fits better, because it asks about the evening rather than the garba circle.
Where a Marathi card falls short
- Elders without smartphones. A phone call or printed card beats any image;
- A Marathi-only card in a mixed society. Neighbours will miss the pass dates.
- Last-minute group invites. Building on the day, as 49.4% of our Raksha Bandhan pages were, works for one person, not a building collecting passes.
- Our own data. Be My Dandiya Partner is new; we have no Navratri usage numbers for it.
