- • In 2026 Swarna Gowri Vratha and Ganesh Chaturthi both fall on Monday 14 September for Bengaluru — Gowri puja 06:09-07:06 AM, Ganesha puja 11:02 AM-01:28 PM per Drik Panchang.
- • In Karnataka the festival is Gowri-Ganesha Habba, so a wish that names only Ganesha reads as a translated Mumbai template.
- • The Kannada script carries 510 kagunitas and over 600 character classes with ottaksharas, which is why phone keyboards transliterate rather than give you a key per letter.
- • In a corpus of 19,432 tagged words from Kannada YouTube comments, only 44.8% were Kannada and 32.32% were English — send the transliteration alongside the script.
- • Platform-wide across all 15 SubhSandesh page types, 49.6% of 45,656 page views open on a phone and 42.1% of 3,860 pages are password-protected before sharing.

Ganesh Chaturthi Wishes in Kannada for Gowri-Ganesha Habba
Ganesh Chaturthi wishes in Kannada are usually sent as ಗಣೇಶ ಚತುರ್ಥಿಯ ಹಾರ್ದಿಕ ಶುಭಾಶಯಗಳು — Ganesha Chaturthiya hardika shubhashayagalu, "heartfelt Ganesha Chaturthi greetings". In Karnataka the more accurate wish names both deities, because the state keeps the two days as one festival: Gowri-Ganesha Habba. In 2026 they collapse into a single Monday. Drik Panchang puts Swarna Gowri Vratha and Ganesh Chaturthi both on 14 September 2026 for Bengaluru, Gowri puja at dawn and Ganesha puja at midday, with visarjan on Friday 25 September. Below are eight wishes in the Kannada script, each with Roman transliteration and a literal English meaning. Two numbers to place the format question, both measured platform-wide across all 15 SubhSandesh page types rather than for Ganesh pages specifically: 49.6% of 45,656 recorded page views open on a phone, and 96.1% of the 3,860 pages started since March 2026 were published and shared.
Why Karnataka calls it Gowri-Ganesha Habba
Karnataka does not celebrate Ganesha alone. Akashvani's Karnataka bulletin describes the festival as "Gowri-Ganesha", with the Gowri idol installed in the mandapam, worship offered, and gifts distributed among the women of the house.
Those gifts have a name. Kittel's Kannada-English Dictionary defines ಬಾಗಿನ (bagina) as a tadbhava of Sanskrit vayana, "a present made by a lady whose husband is living" — the tray of turmeric, kumkum, bangles, rice and coconut that married women exchange on Gowri Habba.
The order matters. Gowri arrives at her parents' house first; Ganesha comes to take her home, which is why the Karnataka wish is addressed to both.
2026 breaks the usual one-day gap. For Bengaluru, Drik Panchang gives the Pratahkala Gowri muhurat as 06:09 AM to 07:06 AM on Monday 14 September and the Madhyahna Ganesha muhurat as 11:02 AM to 01:28 PM the same Monday. A wish sent at 9 PM misses both.
Eight Ganesh Chaturthi wishes in Kannada, with transliteration and meaning
Each line gives the Kannada script, the Roman transliteration you can paste when the script will not render, and a literal meaning rather than a loose one.
1. The standard formal wish
ಸರ್ವರಿಗೂ ಗಣೇಶ ಚತುರ್ಥಿಯ ಹಾರ್ದಿಕ ಶುಭಾಶಯಗಳು.
Sarvarigu Ganesha Chaturthiya hardika shubhashayagalu.
Literally: "Heartfelt Ganesha Chaturthi greetings to everyone." Hardika is a Sanskrit loan meaning "of the heart". Use it for a WhatsApp group, an office broadcast or an apartment association message.
2. The one that names Gowri first
ಗೌರಿ ಗಣೇಶ ಹಬ್ಬದ ಶುಭಾಶಯಗಳು. ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮನೆಗೆ ಸುಖ, ಶಾಂತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸಮೃದ್ಧಿ ಬರಲಿ.
Gowri Ganesha habbada shubhashayagalu. Nimma manege sukha, shanti mattu samruddhi barali.
Literally: "Greetings of the Gowri-Ganesha festival. May comfort, peace and prosperity come to your home." This is the wish that marks you out as writing from Karnataka rather than copying a Mumbai template. Send it on the morning of 14 September 2026.
3. For the women of the house, on Gowri Habba
ಗೌರಿ ದೇವಿ ನಿಮಗೆ ಸೌಭಾಗ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಕರುಣಿಸಲಿ. ಗೌರಿ ಹಬ್ಬದ ಶುಭಾಶಯಗಳು.
Gowri devi nimage saubhagya mattu arogya karunisali. Gowri habbada shubhashayagalu.
Literally: "May Goddess Gowri grant you saubhagya and health. Greetings of Gowri Habba." Send it before 07:06 AM on 14 September 2026, while the Pratahkala muhurat is still open and the bagina is being handed over.
4. For someone who is stuck
ವಿಘ್ನನಿವಾರಕ ಗಣಪತಿ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ವಿಘ್ನಗಳನ್ನು ದೂರ ಮಾಡಲಿ.
Vighnanivaraka Ganapati nimma ella vighnagalannu dura madali.
Literally: "May Ganapati, the remover of obstacles, take all your obstacles far away." Vighna means obstacle in a specific sense — the thing blocking a project, an exam result, a house registration. Good for a colleague or a student, poor for a bereavement.
5. Benaka, the old Kannada name
ಬೆನಕನ ಆಶೀರ್ವಾದ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸದಾ ಇರಲಿ.
Benakana ashirvada nimma maneyalli sada irali.
Literally: "May Benaka's blessing always be in your home." Kittel records ಬೆನಕ as the Kannada tadbhava of ವಿನಾಯಕ, Vinayaka — a form still alive in place names like Benakanahalli.
6. Kadubu, not modak
ಕಡುಬು ಸಿಹಿಯಾಗಿರಲಿ, ವರ್ಷ ಇನ್ನೂ ಸಿಹಿಯಾಗಿರಲಿ.
Kadubu sihiyagirali, varsha innu sihiyagirali.
Literally: "May the kadubu be sweet, and the year sweeter still." ಕಡುಬು is the steamed offering in most Kannada households — Kittel lists it as a food word attested in classical Kannada texts. Writing modak in a Kannada wish is the tell of a translated template.
7. For someone who has had a hard year
ಈ ಗಣೇಶ ಚತುರ್ಥಿ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಕಷ್ಟಗಳಿಗೆ ಕೊನೆ ಹಾಡಲಿ, ಹೊಸ ಆರಂಭ ತರಲಿ.
I Ganesha Chaturthi nimma kashtagalige kone hadali, hosa arambha tarali.
Literally: "May this Ganesha Chaturthi sing an end to your troubles and bring a new beginning." Kone hadu is a genuine Kannada idiom for finishing something off, not a Hindi calque. Use it where a prosperity wish would land badly.
8. Spoken Kannada, for a friend
ಹಬ್ಬ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಆಚರಿಸಿ! ಗಣಪ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಜೊತೆ ಇರಲಿ.
Habba chennagi acharisi! Ganapa nimma jote irali.
Literally: "Celebrate the festival well! May Ganapa be with you." ಗಣಪ rather than ಗಣಪತಿ, ಜೊತೆ rather than ಜೊತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ — this is how the wish is actually spoken in Bengaluru and Mysuru, and it reads as a person rather than a forward.
Kannada script or Roman letters: what Kannada comment data shows
The choice is not stylistic. Shashirekha and colleagues built the CoLI-Kenglish dataset by downloading 100,000 comments from 373 Kannada YouTube videos and hand-tagging 19,432 unique words. Of those, 44.8% were Kannada, 32.32% were English, and 7.5% were Kannada-English hybrids like dogsgalige, an English noun carrying a Kannada suffix.
The same paper is blunt about why: keyboards default to Roman script, and despite Indic input apps, most users still type their local language in Roman letters.
So the Kannada script is the minority format even among Kannada speakers online. It is still right for a greeting — a festival wish is the one message people expect in the script — but pair it with the transliteration when you are not sure the recipient reads Kannada fluently.
Why the Kannada script is heavy on a phone keyboard
Kannada is not a 26-key alphabet. Hebbi and Mamatha, building a handwritten-character dataset from 500 writers, count 34 vyanjanagalu (consonants), 13 swaragalu (vowels) and 2 yogavahagalu in the base set.
Combining those consonants with the vowels produces 510 kagunitas. Add the ottaksharas — subscript consonant clusters written below the line — and the digits, and the paper puts the full class count above 600 distinct shapes. Their dataset runs to 130,981 samples across 85 classes.
That is why Kannada keyboards on Android and iOS are transliteration engines rather than key-per-letter layouts: you type shubhashayagalu and the engine assembles ಶುಭಾಶಯಗಳು. It also explains the broken conjunct you sometimes see in a forwarded image, where an old font renders an ottakshara as a box.
Written Kannada is not spoken Kannada
ಶುಭಾಶಯಗಳು is a Sanskrit-derived word that almost nobody says out loud in a Kannada kitchen. The written register of Kannada and the spoken register have drifted far apart, and greetings sit squarely in the written one — which is exactly why a copied wish can feel stiff.
You can hear the gap in the eighth wish above. ಗಣಪ against ಗಣಪತಿ, ಜೊತೆ against ಜೊತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಆಚರಿಸಿ against ಆಚರಿಸಿರಿ: same message, two registers, and the choice signals how close you are to the person.
Pick the register deliberately: formal ಹಾರ್ದಿಕ ಶುಭಾಶಯಗಳು to an elder, a boss or a group; the spoken form to a cousin. Kittel's dictionary of 1894 is still the fastest way to check whether a word you found online is genuine Kannada or a Hindi import in Kannada spelling.
Four ways to send a Kannada wish, compared
The format decides whether the Kannada survives as text or turns into pixels.
| How you send it | Kannada stays selectable text | Prep time | What SubhSandesh's own numbers say (platform-wide, all 15 page types) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kannada script typed into WhatsApp | Yes | Under a minute | Nothing — WhatsApp is not visible to us |
| Roman transliteration in WhatsApp | Yes | Under a minute | Nothing — WhatsApp is not visible to us |
| A forwarded JPEG of the wish | No, it is pixels | Seconds | Nothing — the image leaves the platform |
| A personalised page sent as a link | Yes | 5–10 minutes | 49.6% of 45,656 views open on a phone; 42.1% of 3,860 pages are password-protected; 96.1% get published |
Avoid the forwarded JPEG. Kannada inside an image cannot be searched, copied, translated or read aloud by a screen reader, and the ottaksharas are the first thing to break when it is recompressed.
For the last row done properly, the Ganesh Chaturthi page the recipient performs themselves is the one built for this: they offer the durva, kumkum, flowers and modak, the aarti thali circles while Karpur Gauram plays, and they write their own prarthana back. You can put the Kannada line in as the message and add your own mandap photo.
When a Kannada wishes page is the wrong thing to send
A page cannot hand anyone a kadubu, and it cannot stand in the queue at the Ganapati temple on Bull Temple Road for you. If you are in the same city as the person, go.
It is also the wrong format for a grandparent without a smartphone. Platform-wide, 49.6% of SubhSandesh's 45,656 recorded views arrive on a phone and 49.9% on a touch device of some kind, so a recipient who only has a shared desktop is a poor fit for anything animated.
The 42.1% of creators who password-protect a page before sharing it — 1,625 of 3,860, again platform-wide rather than Ganesh-specific — are adding a step. For an 84-year-old aunt in Hubballi, that step is the reason she never opens it. Send her plain Kannada text and keep the page for the cousins' group; the full template gallery is worth a look only once you know the recipient will tap a link.
If the aim is a keepsake the family reopens after the visarjan on 25 September 2026, the page wins. If it is a greeting read once at 7 AM, plain text wins.
