- • Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 is Monday 14 September; visarjan on Anant Chaturdashi is Friday 25 September, and पुढच्या वर्षी लवकर या belongs on the second date, not the first.
- • Roman-script Marathi is not a shortcut: L3Cube's 10-million-sentence Marathi social-media corpus splits 5 million Roman-script sentences to 5 million Devanagari.
- • Marathi Devanagari is not Hindi Devanagari — Unicode lists separate Marathi glyphs for ल, श, झ and the digits ५, ८ and ९, plus the eyelash form of RA.
- • Measured platform-wide across all 15 SubhSandesh page types, 49.6% of shared-page views happen on a phone (22,667 of 45,656) and 42.1% of creators password-protect a page before sharing.
- • शुभेच्छा is the Marathi word for good wishes; शुभकामनाएँ is Hindi, and swapping them is the clearest sign a wish was copied off a Hindi list.

Happy Ganesh Chaturthi Wishes in Marathi, Written Out Properly
Happy Ganesh Chaturthi wishes in Marathi almost always start with (Ganesh Chaturthichya hardik shubhechha), "heartfelt good wishes for Ganesh Chaturthi", usually closed with Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 falls on Monday 14 September; visarjan on Anant Chaturdashi is Friday 25 September. Send the wish in Devanagari when the person reads Marathi comfortably, in Roman letters when they read faster that way — both are normal, and every wish below is given in both.
Two numbers before you pick a format: measured platform-wide across all 15 SubhSandesh page types, 49.6% of shared-page views happen on a phone (22,667 of 45,656 views, measured 8 September 2026), and 96.1% of started pages are finished and shared (3,708 of 3,860, same platform-wide measurement, not a Ganesh-specific figure). Below: eight wishes with transliteration and meaning, the script question settled with data, and what Marathi Devanagari does that Hindi Devanagari does not.
What "Ganpati Bappa Morya" actually means
गणपती बाप्पा मोरया, मंगलमूर्ती मोरया is a call-and-response chant, not a sentence. Ganpati Bappa is roughly "Father Ganpati", Mangalmurti is "the auspicious form", and Morya is a name of honour traditionally traced to Moraya Gosavi, the Ganesh devotee of Chinchwad near Pune.
It does not mean "Happy Ganesh Chaturthi". It is a cheer — what a whole street shouts as the idol moves toward the water on 25 September 2026 — so it belongs at the end of a written wish and reads oddly alone to an elder.
The greeting word is shubhechha (शुभेच्छा), "good wishes", usually with hardik (हार्दिक), "heartfelt". Marathi says शुभेच्छा where Hindi says शुभकामनाएँ. The Hindi word sent to a Marathi household is the clearest sign a wish was lifted off a Hindi list.
8 Ganesh Chaturthi wishes in Marathi, with transliteration and meaning
Each gives the Devanagari line, the Roman transliteration, a literal English meaning, and who it suits.
1. The standard formal wish
Ganesh Chaturthichya hardik shubhechha! "Heartfelt good wishes on Ganesh Chaturthi." The safe one. It works for a boss, a teacher, a 200-person WhatsApp group and a grandparent. Add the recipient's name in front and it stops sounding forwarded.
2. The chant, as a sign-off
Ganpati Bappa Morya, Mangalmurti Morya! "Lord Ganpati, Morya — auspicious one, Morya!" Use it as the last line of a longer wish, not the whole message. Sent alone it reads like a shout — fine between friends, thin for family.
3. A blessing for the house
Bappachya aagmanane tumchya gharat sukh, samruddhi aani shanti nando. "With Bappa's arrival, may happiness, prosperity and peace dwell in your home." नांदो is a benedictive, "may it dwell", and carries weight a translated Hindi line does not. Best for a family that installs a murti at home.
4. For someone having a hard year
Vighnaharta Ganraya tumchya sarva adchani door karo. "May Ganraya, the remover of obstacles, take all your difficulties away." Vighnaharta is the epithet for obstacle-removal, so this lands after a bad year — a job loss, an illness, an exam gone wrong.
5. The modak line
Modakacha godva aani Bappacha aashirwad, donhi tumchya padari pado. "May both the sweetness of the modak and Bappa's blessing fall into your lap." पदरी पडणे has no clean Hindi equivalent, which is why it reads as written by a Marathi speaker rather than translated into one.
6. Ten days, and the eleventh
Daha divas ghar bharun raho, akaravya divashi dole bharun yevo. "May the house stay full for ten days, and on the eleventh may the eyes fill up." It names the real shape of the festival — 14 to 25 September in 2026 — and admits the sadness of visarjan. Good for someone who has moved away.
7. An informal one, addressed to Bappa
Tu aamchya gharcha, tu aamchya manacha — Bappa, yandahi lavkar ye. "You belong to our house, you belong to our heart — Bappa, come early this year too." The informal तू to a deity is normal in Marathi devotion and rude to a person. Use it as a caption, not a message to an uncle.
8. What you shout at visarjan
Ganpati Bappa Morya, pudhchya varshi lavkar ya! "Ganpati Bappa Morya, come early next year!" Save it for 25 September 2026. Sent on day one it is the wrong line, and Marathi speakers read that as a copy-paste error.
Devanagari or Roman letters: which script to send the wish in
Both are genuine written Marathi now. L3Cube's MeCorpus, released in June 2023, is a 10-million-sentence Marathi social-media corpus split exactly in half: 5 million Roman-script code-mixed Marathi-English sentences and 5 million in Devanagari.
Of that Roman-script half, 3,314,767 sentences — 1,037,659 tweets and 2,277,108 YouTube comments — were harvested as people actually wrote them; only 1,685,233 were machine-transliterated from Devanagari. Millions of Marathi speakers type Marathi in English letters by choice.
That is why AI4Bharat built Aksharantar, presented at Findings of EMNLP in December 2023, which names "the widespread use of romanized inputs" as the reason transliteration matters in India. It runs to 26 million transliteration pairs across 21 Indic languages and 12 scripts.
Practical rule: Devanagari for anyone over about 45, for family groups, and for anything printed or read aloud. Roman for banter, captions and colleagues without a Marathi keyboard. In doubt, send both — Devanagari with the Roman line under it.
Why Marathi Devanagari does not look like Hindi Devanagari
Marathi and Hindi share the script, not the letterforms. Chapter 12 of the Unicode Standard lists Marathi allographs — different preferred glyphs for the same code points — for ल, श, झ and the digits ५, ८ and ९, and records in rule R5 that Marathi also uses the "eyelash" form of RA, which Hindi does not.
Readers feel the difference. In a survey of Devanagari readers run by the type foundry Typotheque, 387 analysed responses across India and Nepal showed 35.8% of respondents whose mother tongue is Marathi preferring the second form of ल, against 2.4% of those who learned Hindi first.
So a Ganesh wish in a Hindi-default font is legible but subtly foreign. If you are building a page, set its language to Marathi so the font picks Marathi forms.
Marathi's standing is not incidental: the Union Cabinet conferred Classical Language status on Marathi on 3 October 2024, alongside Pali, Prakrit, Assamese and Bengali.
Ganesh Chaturthi quotes in Marathi for a status or caption
Short lines survive a status bar better than blessings. Four that are actually Marathi:
- बाप्पा आले, घर भरलं. — Bappa aale, ghar bharla. — "Bappa came, the house filled up."
— Morya, yanda jara jaastach laksh de. — "Morya, pay a bit more attention this year."
— Daha divsancha pahuna, varshabharachi odh. — "A guest for ten days, a longing for the year."
— Ganraya, tujhyashivay September apura. — "Ganraya, September is incomplete without you."
One correction, because almost every "Marathi quotes" list gets it wrong: वक्रतुंड महाकाय सूर्यकोटि समप्रभ is Sanskrit, not Marathi. It is a shloka, entirely appropriate on Ganesh Chaturthi, and not a Marathi quote. Label it as a shloka and nobody minds.
Four ways to send the wish, compared
The format decides whether the Marathi stays real text or turns into pixels.
| How you send it | Marathi stays selectable text | Recipient can reply in Marathi | Effort |
|---|---|---|---|
| Devanagari typed in WhatsApp | Yes | Yes | Under a minute |
| Roman-script line in WhatsApp | Yes | Yes | Under a minute |
| Forwarded JPEG with the wish on it | No — it is an image | Only as a new message | Seconds |
| A personalised page you send as a link | Yes | Yes, on the page itself | 5–10 minutes |
Avoid the forwarded image: it cannot be searched, copied, translated or read by a screen reader, and your recipient has had four of them today.
For the last option done properly, the Ganesh Chaturthi page the recipient performs themselves is built for this — they offer the durva, kumkum, flowers and modak, the aarti thali circles while Karpur Gauram plays, and they write their own prarthana back.
What people build on SubhSandesh, platform-wide across all 15 page types — not Ganesh figures, since that template shipped days ago with zero pages so far:
| Page type | Pages created since 12 March 2026 | Share of all 3,860 pages |
|---|---|---|
| "I love you" page | 1,065 | 27.6% |
| Digital bouquet | 954 | 24.7% |
| Apology dashboard | 904 | 23.4% |
| Darling romantic page | 385 | 10.0% |
| Birthday page for a partner | 257 | 6.7% |
Two more platform-wide numbers: 42.1% of creators password-protect a page before sharing it (1,625 of 3,860), and the median gap between a page's first save and its last edit is 6.8 hours. People do not finish these in one sitting. The full range sits in the SubhSandesh template gallery.
When a Marathi wish page is the wrong thing to send
A link cannot hand anyone a modak. If you are in the same city as the mandap, go — the wish is the consolation prize for not being there, and everyone involved knows it.
It is also wrong for a grandparent whose phone cannot render Devanagari conjuncts, still common on older budget Android handsets: ऱ्य or क्ष arrive as boxes, and a wish full of boxes is worse than no wish. Send a Marathi voice note instead. For someone over 75 that beats everything on this page.
If the person reads Marathi but you do not write it, do not fake it. One honest English line with a Marathi phrase you can pronounce beats eight borrowed sentences.
