- • A garba invitation needs ten blocks in order: headline, invocation, date with start and end time, venue and parking, pass and price, dress code, children and elders, food, RSVP and rules.
- • India's Noise Pollution Rules, 2000 bar loudspeakers from 10 pm to 6 am outside closed premises; a state may allow up to midnight on festive occasions for at most 15 days a year.
- • 48.3% of SubhSandesh pages are opened on a phone and each averages 11.1 views, so put the time and venue where a returning reader finds them without scrolling.
- • Of five real garba listings from 2018 to 2026, one gave no end time and another slipped back to 'onwards' in its own text.
- • The Be My Dandiya Partner page is one-to-one: wrong for a society or college invite, right only for the one person you want beside you.

Garba Invitation Wording for Organisers, Block by Block
Good garba invitation wording is ten short blocks in a fixed order: headline, invocation, date with a start and an end time, venue and parking, pass and price, dress code, children and elders, food, RSVP, and rules. Most cards stop at "8 pm onwards", which skips the one line that guests, neighbours and the noise rules all care about.
Write it for a phone. Across SubhSandesh, 48.3% of shared pages are opened on a phone (27,725 of 57,456 views), and each page averages 11.1 views, so people reopen a link to re-check it. Those are platform-wide figures for personal pages, not garba flyers, but they point one way: the time and venue must sit where a returning thumb finds them without scrolling.
Below are the ten blocks, five model wordings (society, college, temple, diaspora, home), and a block-by-block check of five real garba listings from 2018 to 2026. Every model line is original, so copy it freely.
What is garba invitation wording?
Garba invitation wording is the organiser's copy on a card, flyer or WhatsApp poster for a group garba night. It tells a whole community when, where, at what price and on what terms; a personal text to one household is a different job.
Garba is mostly danced in a circle where partners rotate, so the card invites a crowd, not a couple. Of five real organiser listings read for this page, from 2018 to 2026, four state a finishing time somewhere and one says only "8 p.m. onwards".
The 10 blocks of a garba invitation, in order
Each block gives what to write, a model line and the usual mistake. Block 3 is the one most cards get wrong.
1. Headline
Name the event and the host in one line: "Shree Ambe Residency Navratri Garba". A forwarded poster with no host name arrives as an anonymous flyer.
2. Invocation line
One optional line for the goddess: "Jai Ambe. With Maa's blessings, the nine nights begin." On a temple or society card it sets the tone in eight words; on a college or diaspora card, keep it to one line or drop it. Never let devotion push the date below the first screen.
3. Date, start time and end time
Write the weekday, the dates and both times: "Every night, Sunday 11 to Monday 19 October, 8:00 to 10:00 pm" (the 2026 nights). Under the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, a loudspeaker needs written permission and cannot be used between 10 pm and 6 am, except in closed premises such as community halls. A state government may allow 10 pm to midnight on festive occasions, for no more than 15 days in a calendar year.
So print "till 12 midnight" only once your local permission covers those nights, and drop "onwards" entirely. For Sharad Navratri 2027, the nights run Thursday 30 September to Friday 8 October, per Drik Panchang's New Delhi listing.
4. Venue, gate and parking
Give the place, the gate and where vehicles go: "Central lawn, Gate 2, opposite the clubhouse. Two-wheelers inside; cars on the service road." The Perth listing put "free parking" right beside the time.
A society name alone works for residents and fails every outside guest. Send the map pin in the WhatsApp text, not on the poster image.
5. Entry, pass and price
State who is invited, the price per head, what it includes, and where and by when passes are collected. A 2023 circular from GHAA, the Gujarat High Court advocates' association, did exactly this: Rs 100 per pass, collect from the office on or before 25 October, no member admitted without one.
Model: "Passes ₹150 per adult from the society office, 7 to 9 pm, by Friday 9 October." A price with no "includes" line is the usual mistake.
6. Dress code
"Traditional dress welcome: chaniya choli, kediyu, kurta, or anything you can dance in for two hours." The Perth organisers encouraged traditional outfits but told guests to wear whatever they are comfortable dancing in. Avoid "compulsory traditional" on a campus or diaspora card.
7. Children and elders
"Children under 5 free; under-12s with an adult. Water and chairs for elders by the stage; first aid at Gate 1." Both the Perth and Palos Verdes listings let under-5s in free.
A 2025 review in Current Cardiology Reviews reports Gujarat's EMRI logged 66,397 heart-related emergency calls from January to November 2023, the most in October and November, coinciding with Navratri. A water-and-first-aid line is not fussiness.
8. Food
Say whether food is included, when it is served, and whether fasting guests are covered: "Farali snacks and tea from 9:30 pm; dinner on Saturday only." The Buffalo student group wrote that food was not included in the ticket; Palos Verdes said its ticket included dinner.
Guests expect food: a 2022 review of festival gatherings in IJERPH describes garba raas in Gujarat and Maharashtra as organised with feasts. Say so either way.
9. RSVP and headcount
Ask for a number by a date, to a named person: "Reply with adults and children to Meera by Thursday 8 October." In a field experiment by Hock, Anderson and Potoski, people who got a personal invitation phone call attended a civic meeting at 8.3%, against 4.7% for those who did not (only the abstract was read). A personal nudge beats a forwarded poster.
No published garba no-show rate exists, so there is no headcount formula here. Expect late decisions: on SubhSandesh, 49.4% of Raksha Bandhan 2026 pages were built on the festival day itself (n = 89). That is a different festival and a small sample, but it argues for a same-day reminder.
10. Rules
"Dandiya sticks: bring your own or buy at the gate. Alcohol- and smoke-free. Pass on your phone or printed." Palos Verdes sold sticks at the event; Perth declared itself alcohol- and smoke-free, asked for a digital or printed ticket, and warned that photos might be used for promotion.
Five model garba invitation wordings by event type
Each wording keeps the block order above, and all five are originals: copy and edit freely. The home card skips the pass, price and rules blocks; the diaspora card adds one line explaining garba to first-timers.
Society or RWA, traditional.
Jai Ambe! Shree Ambe Residency Welfare Association invites every family to Navratri Garba on the central lawn, nightly from 8:00 to 10:00 pm. Passes ₹150 per adult from the office; children under 5 free. Traditional dress welcome. Farali counter from 9:30 pm. Bring your own dandiya. Headcount to Meera by Thursday.
College or campus, modern.
Garba Night is back. The Hostel Fest Committee hosts it on the main quad, Saturday 7:00 to 10:00 pm. ₹200 with college ID, ₹300 for guests. Wear anything you can spin in; sticks on sale at the gate. Register on the form pinned in the group by Wednesday. No entry after 9 pm.
Temple or community hall.
With Maa Durga's blessings, the temple trust invites devotees to Sharad Navratri garba after the evening aarti, 8:30 to 10:00 pm in the community hall. No entry charge; prasad after the last round. Seating for elders near the stage.
Diaspora association.
Never danced garba? It is a circle dance: the steps repeat and the circle teaches you. Our association invites you to Garba Night, Saturday 6:00 to 10:00 pm at the community centre. Adults $20, children 5 to 12 $10, under 5 free; dinner included.
Home garba.
Garba at home! We are clearing the living room on Friday, 7:30 to 9:30 pm, Flat 402. About 20 of us, so tell me by Wednesday how many are coming. Wear something comfortable; dinner after aarti. Music goes down at 9:30 for the neighbours.
Five real garba listings, checked block by block
This table shows how five public organiser listings handled the three blocks guests ask about most. Values are quoted as published.
| Listing | Time line | Price line | Children line |
|---|---|---|---|
| GHAA Sharad Poonam Garba, Ahmedabad, 28 Oct 2023 | "8 p.m. onwards", no end time | Rs 100 per pass, collect by 25 Oct | Spouse and children invited, no child rate |
| GISA Garba Night, Buffalo, 13 Oct 2018 | 8 pm to midnight | $3 members, $7 students, $13 others; food extra | Not stated |
| Group of Nagarsheth, Perth, 10 Oct 2026 | "7:00 PM onwards" in text; 7 to 11 pm on the listing | $15 early bird | Under 5 free |
| Palos Verdes Garba & Dandiya Night, 17 Oct 2026 | 6:00 to 9:30 pm | $35 regular, $25 kids, dinner included | Under 5 free |
| Indian Festivals Club of Nova Scotia, 2 to 4 Oct 2026 | 7 to 11:30 pm | Limited door tickets after online sales ended | Not in the summary read |
The end time and the "what the price includes" line are the blocks most often missing. The Perth card shows "onwards" creeping back even when the organiser knows the finishing time.
When the Be My Dandiya Partner page is the wrong tool
For a society, college, temple or diaspora invitation, SubhSandesh's dandiya page is the wrong tool. It is a one-to-one invitation with a single yes or no: it keeps no guest list, counts no heads, sells no passes, and its interface is English only. For a group, use the poster plus a WhatsApp text with a named RSVP contact.
It is right for exactly one case: you want one specific person beside you in the circle. The Be My Dandiya Partner invitation carries nine lines (one per night), up to six photos, a ticket with date, time, venue and dress code plus Add to calendar, and a 1080×1920 Dandiya Pass. Its No button turns into a second Yes after five tries, and it opens in any browser with no app or account.
If the plan runs beyond garba night, The Invitation date page suits better. A yes there turns into a countdown, and on the day the plan unlocks one stop at a time.
