Garba Partner on Rent: What the Ads Offered and How to Stay Safe
In September 2026, Instagram ads in Gujarat offered a 'garba partner on rent' for ₹500 to about ₹6,500. Nobody verified them, and Ahmedabad's Cyber Crime Cell examined them for fraud. What was offered, why, the risks and safer ways to go.

- • Rent-a-garba-partner ads in Gujarat (Sep 2026) listed packages from ₹500 to about ₹6,500; no report verified that any operator was real.
- • The Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Cell examined the accounts, contact methods and payment channels; the advice was never to share OTPs or bank details and to report fraud on 1930.
- • The joke works because big venues price passes by gender: ₹5,500 for men vs ₹2,100 for women at one Vadodara garba in 2025.
- • Group passes, society garba or asking someone you know are the safer routes; SubhSandesh does not rent or find partners.
Garba Partner on Rent: What the Ads Offered and How to Stay Safe
A "garba partner on rent" is a paid companion for a garba night, advertised on Instagram in Gujarat in September 2026 at reported prices from ₹500 to about ₹6,500 a package. Nobody has confirmed that any of these services actually operates.
The Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Cell examined the ads to see whether they were real services, publicity stunts or fraud, and one Mumbai newspaper described the trend as largely fake or satirical. SubhSandesh does not rent, hire or find garba partners.
If what you want is to go with someone you already know, that ask now happens on a phone: 48.3% of pages shared through SubhSandesh are opened on one, and 38.5% of creators password-protect their page before sending it. Those are platform-wide figures, not garba data. Below: what the ads promised, why they appeared, the risks investigators named, how to check an event and a payment, and safer ways to get a partner.
What is a "garba partner on rent"?
A garba partner on rent is a stranger you pay to accompany you to a garba or dandiya night, posing as your date or dance partner. The idea went viral through Instagram posts in Gujarat ahead of Sharad Navratri 2026, which ran from 11 October to Dussehra on 20 October.
The post most widely reported came from an Instagram user named Krishna Mistry, according to Aaj Tak's 16 September 2026 report. It announced a "rent a garba partner" service with three tiers. Aaj Tak added that it could not independently confirm whether the service was really running or was only a joke post. Every price on this page is therefore what an advertisement claimed, not a rate anyone is known to have paid.
What the ads offered and what they cost
Reports describe at least two families of ads with different prices, which is why the figures you see online disagree. The table sets the reported packages side by side, with the outlet that reported each one.
| Package as advertised | Reported price | What the ad claimed to include | Reported by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Silver | ₹1,000 | 2 hours of garba, matching outfits, basic steps, selfies | Aaj Tak, 16 Sep 2026 |
| Gold | ₹1,500 | 4 hours, a made-up story of how you met, videos for social media | Aaj Tak, 16 Sep 2026 |
| Platinum | ₹2,000 | A full day, help with dupatta and earrings, a drop home afterwards | Aaj Tak, 16 Sep 2026 |
| Male or female companion | ₹500–₹2,000 male; up to ₹3,000 female, shorter sessions | Dance nights, shopping, garba lessons, coordinated outfits, photos | Dynamite News, 22 Sep 2026 |
| Premium, longer companionship | About ₹6,500 | Extended festival companionship | Dynamite News, 22 Sep 2026 |
The range runs from ₹500 to about ₹6,500, and no report found a verified operator behind any of it. Treat each figure as an advertising claim.
Dynamite News reported on 22 September 2026 that the ads featured young men and women, priced by duration and service, and that the authenticity of the ads "remains under investigation". Searches for "garba partner on rent in Ahmedabad" lead back to these same posts. There is no separate Ahmedabad price list.
Why did rented garba partners appear?
The joke lands because garba nights at big venues are ticketed, expensive and often priced by gender. DeshGujarat's September 2025 survey of pass prices found season passes above ₹10,000 at top Ahmedabad events such as Mandli and Rang Morla.
The same report shows the gender gap plainly. In Vadodara, the LVP Heritage Garba season pass cost ₹2,100 for women and ₹5,500 for men in 2025, and United Way Garba set men's and women's passes at ₹4,500 and ₹1,800. Those are 2025 prices; check the venue's own listing for the current year.
What I could not verify is the common claim that venues bar men who arrive alone. I found no published 2026 rule from an Ahmedabad venue banning single ("stag") entry or admitting couples only, so this page does not assert one. Gender-priced passes are documented; a couples-only rule is not.
There is also a social reason. Aaj Tak framed the post as an answer to a familiar complaint: having nobody to play garba with.
What risks did investigators flag?
The Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Cell examined the accounts behind the ads, how they contacted interested users and which payment channels they promoted, according to Dynamite News on 22 September 2026. Its main concern was users being sent to suspicious payment links, fake websites or unknown platforms.
Four risks recur across the reports:
- Advance payment with no service. Officials told users to be cautious about offers that ask for money upfront or for personal details, because a fraudster can take the payment and never show up.
- Fake profiles. Investigators were looking at possible AI-generated images and fake online identities, which make it hard to tell whether a profile is a real person.
- Data theft. Conversations with an unverified account can be used to collect personal details or send malicious links, which can lead to phishing or account hacking.
- Meeting a stranger. The Free Press Journal reported on 24 September 2026 that police departments and political leaders in Gujarat and Maharashtra cautioned people against responding, citing fraud and the safety risks of meeting strangers.
There was no published police advisory document. What was reported is an investigation plus general cyber-safety advice. The same FPJ report noted that the Bajrang Dal threatened to "weed out" venues encouraging the trend, which adds one more reason not to turn up with a stranger.
The pattern investigators described matches what researchers have documented in online romance fraud. A 2026 scoping review of 50 empirical studies by Schokkenbroek and Snaphaan, published open access in Trauma, Violence, & Abuse, maps the scam into nine scenes, from building a fake profile to the final payout.
Two scenes fit the rental ads closely. In "the Shift", contact that starts on a public platform such as Instagram is moved to a private channel such as WhatsApp, which removes the platform's monitoring and reporting tools. In "the Payout", money moves by bank transfer, gift cards or other hard-to-reverse methods, often under time pressure.
So the warning sign is not the price. It is a stranger who wants to leave Instagram for a private chat and asks for money before you have met.
How to check an ad, an event and a payment before you pay
These checks come from the advice reported in September and October 2026. They are practical precautions, not legal advice.
- Never share an OTP, bank details or passwords with anyone you met through an ad. Authorities gave this exact advice, per Dynamite News.
- Do not click payment links or open attachments sent by an unknown account, and do not pay in advance for a person you have not met.
- Buy passes only from the organiser or its listed sellers. DeshGujarat reported that major Ahmedabad events sell through BookMyShow and District by Zomato.
- Be wary of resold passes. Curly Tales reported on 11 October 2026 that Ahmedabad Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut told organisers to report fake passes so police could file an FIR.
- Report suspected fraud on the national cybercrime helpline, 1930.
The same Curly Tales report said 14,000 police personnel and security staff would be deployed at venues, with more than 300 officers on the streets to help people get home safely. That is security at the venue; it does not vet the person you arrive with.
Safer ways to get a garba partner
You do not need to pay a stranger to have company in the circle. Garba is a circle dance in which you clap and step beside whoever is next to you, so arriving with friends is enough to dance all night.
Go as a group. Group season passes exist at several Ahmedabad events: DeshGujarat listed Mirchi Rock & Dhol group passes at ₹18,999 and Roots Garba at ₹8,999 for three days in 2025. Split among friends, that is often cheaper than a solo premium pass.
Try sheri garba. The same report suggested street-style community garba in your neighbourhood or housing society for anyone unwilling to pay premium rates. Entry is local and you already know the people.
Ask someone you already know. For a friend, a crush or a partner, a direct invitation is the honest version of what the ads sell. Most people decide late: in our Raksha Bandhan 2026 data, the nearest festival analogue we have, 49.4% of 89 pages were built on the festival day itself.
If you want to make that ask with a little ceremony, the Be My Dandiya Partner invitation is a one-to-one page for that single person. You add nine short lines, one for each night, up to six photos and the night's details, then send a private link, with an optional password.
They open it in a phone browser with no app and no account, play a short dhol-beat game and pick the colour they will twirl in. A yes gives them a 1080×1920 Dandiya Pass.
When SubhSandesh is the wrong tool
SubhSandesh does not rent partners, match strangers or sell garba passes. If you have nobody in mind to ask, the page above cannot help; a group pass, a society garba or a friends' night out is the answer.
It is also the wrong tool for a group. It invites one person, not a society or an office team, and its interface is in English only. If the plan is bigger than one garba night, such as dinner and a drive afterwards, an invitation they must answer, with a countdown to the day suits it better.
And no page fixes the cost problem behind the trend. If a ₹10,000 season pass is out of reach, a link will not change that; a neighbourhood garba will.
