- • A kanya pujan invitation goes to the girls' parents and needs five fields: day and tithi, arrival time, home time, food, and a reply-by day.
- • In New Delhi the 2026 Ashtami tithi ends at 10:51 AM on Monday 19 October (Drik Panchang), so an Ashtami kanjak should start around 8 AM; Navami runs to 12:50 PM on 20 October.
- • Girls do the rounds: on Ashtami 2025 in Ludhiana seven girls and two boys hired an auto to visit three houses, so send the invite four days ahead and offer a slot.
- • In Raksha Bandhan 2026, SubhSandesh's nearest measured festival (n = 89, not Navratri data), 49.4% of pages were built on the day itself, too late for a kanjak invite.
- • Name the langur (one boy, seen as a form of Bhairav) in the invite, and never name a dakshina amount.

Kanya Pujan Invitation Message: 8 Kanjak Texts, Hindi and English
A kanya pujan invitation message goes to the girls' parents, never the girls, and must answer five things on one phone screen: the day, arrival time, home time, the food, and who walks her back. In 2026 Durga Ashtami and Maha Navami both fall on Monday 19 October in New Delhi, so families of both customs want the same girls on the same morning.
Two SubhSandesh numbers shape the advice. 48.3% of pages shared through our platform are opened on a phone, so each message fits one WhatsApp bubble. In Raksha Bandhan 2026, the nearest festival we have measured (n = 89, not Navratri data), 49.4% of pages were built on the festival day itself, and for kanjak that is too late.
Below: eight original messages in Devanagari, romanised Hindi and English, with the tithi times and the langur custom.
What should a kanya pujan invitation say?
A kanya pujan (kanjak) invitation asks a family to send their daughter to your home on Ashtami or Navami, to be honoured as the Goddess and fed. The Tribune's April 2025 report from Amritsar describes the ritual: nine girls, often aged 2 to 10, their feet washed and bhog served.
A parent is lending you a small child for an hour. The message needs five fields:
- Day and tithi: "Monday 19 October, Ashtami", in words.
- Arrival time: a clock time, not "subah".
- Home time: and who brings her.
- Food: the dishes, so a parent can flag an allergy.
- Reply by: a day, so you can count heads.
Ashtami or Navami: which date and time go in the message?
Write the day your family follows; custom differs by region. Ludhiana homes held kanjak on Durga Ashtami, 30 September 2025 (The Tribune, 1 October 2025), while in Jammu "Kanja Pujan" marked Mahanavami a day later (Greater Kashmir, 1 October 2025).
In 2026 both customs share a date. Drik Panchang's New Delhi Sandhi Puja page runs Ashtami from 08:27 AM on 18 October to 10:51 AM on 19 October, with Sandhi Puja at 10:27–11:15 AM. Its Maha Navami page runs Navami from 10:51 AM on 19 October to 12:50 PM on 20 October.
So an Ashtami family should invite for 8 AM and finish by 10:30, and a Navami family can invite for 11:30 AM. Whether your household uses the 20th instead is a question for your pandit.
In 2027 the days split: Ashtami Thursday 7 October, Navami Friday 8 October. A panchang set to a US city shows Ashtami on 18 October 2026, so NRIs should check their city.
How many girls, and do you invite a langur?
Nine girls is the classic number, one for each form of Durga, but many homes invite fewer. Navbharat Times (11 October 2024) records the belief that five or seven kanyas should be worshipped.
Most families also seat one boy. The same piece calls him the langur, languriya or batuk, a gentle form of Bhairav who guards the girls, so name a brother in the invite too.
Ask early, because girls do the rounds. On Ashtami 2025 in Ludhiana, the Tribune met seven girls and two boys who had hired an auto to visit three houses.

When should you send a kanjak invitation?
Send it four days before, and the reminder the evening before. Our only lead-time data is Raksha Bandhan 2026 (n = 89, not Navratri): of 79 pages finished in time, 86.1% were built within 24 hours of the day.
| When the message goes out | Raksha Bandhan 2026 pages built then (SubhSandesh, n = 89) | What it means for a 19 October kanjak |
|---|---|---|
| Four or more days ahead | 6.7% | Thursday 15 October: the slot to aim for |
| Two to three days ahead | 5.6% | Fine for neighbours; society slots fill now |
| The day before | 27.0% | Reminder day, not invite day |
| On the day | 49.4% | Too late: girls are already doing rounds |
If kanjak hosts behave like rakhi senders, the Thursday texter gets first pick. The sample is small: read the pattern, not the decimals.
What to say about food, dakshina and the aarti
Name the food. Ludhiana homes cooked halwa, puri and chane, and Amritsar families gave karah, poori and chane with some money and small gifts such as pens, pencils and tiffin boxes (both Tribune reports above).
Say "a small gift", never an amount. Parents compare.
Do the aarti first and seat the girls straight after it. In a 2023 HIMALAYA journal photo essay on Kandara village, Uttarakhand, IIT Hyderabad researchers record that as the temple aarti ended during Navratri 2021, nine kanyā were offered food and worshipped as the nine forms of the Devi. On the eighth day, they note, more than fifty girls walked barefoot to fetch water for the goddess.
When a text is the wrong tool, and where /dandiya-partner fits
For a family you have never met, the text is the record, not the invitation: ring the bell first. A parent without WhatsApp needs a call.
SubhSandesh has no kanya pujan template, and the Be My Dandiya Partner invitation is the wrong tool here. It is a one-to-one page with an English interface, nine lines, up to six photos and a 1080×1920 Dandiya Pass, built to ask one person to garba, not a lane of parents. Keep it for garba night.
Every SubhSandesh template is listed in one place if you want to check. For kanjak, a text plus a knock still wins.
