- • A 9:16 Navratri status card should be exported at 1,080 × 1,920 or 1,440 × 2,560 pixels, with the face and name between 269 and 1,248 pixels from the top on the smaller size.
- • Cropping a horizontal phone photo to 9:16 keeps only about 42% of its width, so use vertical photos for status cards and 4:5 or 1:1 for couples and groups.
- • A Hindi or Gujarati name breaks when the font lacks the conjunct: check the short-i sign sits left and no stray halant appears, and use a licensed font such as Noto Sans Devanagari (SIL OFL 1.1).
- • 48.3% of SubhSandesh pages are opened on a phone and 38.5% of creators password-protect them, so design for a phone screen and ask everyone pictured before you design.
- • A one-to-one invitation link with up to six photos suits one person; a society, office or family invite is better as a single 4:5 or 1:1 image card.

Navratri Invitation Card Online Free With Photo: Crop, Name, Send
A Navratri invitation card online free with photo works when three things are right: a vertical photo at least 1,080 pixels wide, the face kept out of the bottom third, and a name that renders correctly in Hindi or Gujarati script. Design it for a phone first: 48.3% of SubhSandesh pages are opened on a phone, and 38.5% of creators password-protect a page before sharing it, which shows how many people care who sees a personal photo. Below are exact crop sizes from Meta's own spec pages, where the face and name sit, how to stop a Devanagari name breaking, whose permission you need, and a ten-step edit checklist.
What makes a photo invitation card different from a plain e-card?
A Navratri photo invitation card is an invite that carries a real photograph and a real name, not just a festive illustration. It has three jobs on one screen: show a face the guest recognises, say who is inviting whom, and give the date, time, venue and dress code.
The photo is what makes it personal and what goes wrong. A face cropped at the chin or "प्रिया" printed as broken letters happens while editing, which is this guide's subject; tool comparisons and video invites are separate topics.
Which photo size and crop work for 1:1, 4:5 and 9:16 cards?
Pick the output before you pick the photo. Meta's Instagram Feed image spec recommends 4:5 at 1,440 × 1,800 pixels, accepts shapes from 400 × 500 to 191 × 100, and sets a 500-pixel minimum width. Its Instagram Stories image spec recommends 9:16 at 1,440 × 2,560; 1,080 × 1,920 is the same shape, smaller.
They are ad specs, but the clearest published geometry for phone-width images. A square 1:1 card sits inside the feed range.
The crop maths decides which photo you can use. A typical 12-megapixel phone photo is 4,000 × 3,000 pixels:
- Vertical photo to 9:16: keeps the full height and 2,250 of the 3,000-pixel width, losing 25% at the sides.
- Vertical photo to 4:5: keeps the full width and 3,750 of the 4,000-pixel height, losing about 6%.
- Horizontal photo to 9:16: keeps 1,688 of the 4,000-pixel width, about 42%. Two people standing side by side rarely survive it.
So use vertical photos for status cards and horizontal group shots for square or 4:5. Screenshots often fall under Meta's 500-pixel floor; use the original file.
Where should the face and the name sit on the card?
Meta's Stories spec asks you to leave roughly 14% at the top, 35% at the bottom and 6% at each side free of text and key elements, because the profile icon and call-to-action cover them. On a 1,080 × 1,920 card that is 269 pixels at the top, 672 at the bottom and 65 at each side. The face and the name both belong in the band between 269 and 1,248 pixels from the top.
Put the eyes about a third of the way down that band, and the name just above the head or just below the chin, never across the face. Date, time and venue sit lower, still above 1,248 pixels.
Faces also compete with text, and script matters. In a 30-person eye-tracking study of Hindi–English bilinguals schooled in English, published in Vision in June 2026 by Romero-Ortells, Perea and Gutierrez-Sigut, viewers split their gaze evenly between faces and English subtitles but looked at faces more when the subtitles were Hindi. That was video, not a card, so treat it as a hint: set a Devanagari name larger, or add the English spelling beneath.
Couple, family or single-host photo: which one for which invite?
The photo decides the crop, where the name fits and who must agree. Each choice below uses the same four fields.
1. Single-host photo
- Suits: one person inviting one person, or a host inviting friends.
- Crop: 9:16, head and shoulders.
- Name: one line above the head.
- Permission: only yours.
2. Couple photo
- Suits: a couple inviting friends to their garba night.
- Crop: 4:5 at 1,440 × 1,800, avoiding the 25% side loss of 9:16.
- Name: both on one line, "Riya & Kunal", below the chins.
- Permission: both of you, before you design.
3. Family photo
- Suits: a home garba or puja invite to relatives.
- Crop: 1:1 or 4:5; a family of five shot horizontally loses people at 9:16.
- Name: the family name, larger than any first name, because each face is small.
- Permission: every adult pictured; parents decide for children.
4. Society or group photo
- Suits: a society, office or college garba night.
- Crop: 1:1 or 4:5.
- Name: the event and venue, since no one person is the host.
- Permission: the hardest case; a venue or decoration photo is safer than last year's crowd shot.
Do you need permission from everyone in the photo?
Yes: ask first, and offer a crop-out rather than dropping the photo. Such, Porter, Preibusch and Joinson at CHI 2017 surveyed 496 people who uploaded photos and 537 people pictured in them, and found that disagreements over shared photos were mostly settled all-or-nothing, even when the two sides talked. Only the abstract could be read; the full text would not open.
On an invitation, all-or-nothing means a card already forwarded. Asking first leaves a middle option: a tighter crop, another photo, or a name without a face.
If the card is personal, a link you can lock is closer to what 38.5% of SubhSandesh creators choose. File size and the difference between sending a WhatsApp photo as an image or as a document are covered in our guide to Navratri wishes with name, so they are not repeated here.
How do you write a name in Hindi or Gujarati so it renders?
Type the name, then check it at 200% zoom before exporting. The Unicode Standard 16.0, chapter 12, explains why names break: the short-i sign (ि) is typed after its consonant but drawn to its left, so the software must reorder it. When a font lacks a conjunct, the fallback is half-forms and then a visible virama (्), which is how "प्रिया" turns into loose letters with a stray mark.
Two checks catch most failures. Run both on every name:
- Short-i test: in "प्रिया" or "કિશન", the ि or િ sits to the left of its consonant cluster.
- Halant test: no stray ् or ્ inside a name, and no dotted circle anywhere.
If either fails, change the font, not the spelling. Noto Sans Devanagari is released under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, and Noto Sans Gujarati carries the same licence text.
That licence says its requirement to stay under the OFL does not apply to any document made with the font; the main restriction is that the font may not be sold by itself. A download-site font with no licence file is riskier.
Photo invitation card formats compared
The table compares four outputs on export size and best photo. Only the last row is a SubhSandesh product, so only it has first-party numbers.
| Format | Size to export | Photo that suits it | SubhSandesh data |
|---|---|---|---|
| Square image card (1:1) | 1,440 × 1,440, inside Meta's 400 × 500 to 191 × 100 range | Family or group, shot horizontally | Not measured |
| Portrait image card (4:5) | 1,440 × 1,800 (Meta feed spec) | Couple | Not measured |
| Status or story card (9:16) | 1,440 × 2,560 or 1,080 × 1,920 (Meta Stories spec) | Single host, shot vertically | Not measured |
| Interactive one-to-one invitation link | Up to six photos plus a 1,080 × 1,920 PNG pass | Your photo and theirs | 48.3% of pages opened on a phone; 38.5% of creators add a password |
Match the shape to the photo you already have. Never force a horizontal group shot into 9:16.
For one person, an image card has a ceiling. The Be My Dandiya Partner invitation takes both your names, nine short lines (one per night), a note and up to six photos that dance round a garba circle, and ends with a 1,080 × 1,920 Dandiya Pass carrying your photo, both names, the date and venue.
Its own page schema marks it free to access, and it has an optional password. You can edit and republish to the same link, and its interface is in English.
A ten-step edit checklist before you send
People edit late. The nearest SubhSandesh measurement is Raksha Bandhan, a different festival with a small sample (n = 89): 49.4% of those pages were built on the festival day, median lead time 0 days. On the apology dashboard the median gap between first save and last edit is 2.5 hours, so plan for a few rounds.
- Choose the output: 9:16 for status, 4:5 for feed or chat, 1:1 for a group chat.
- Use a photo at least 1,080 pixels on its short side.
- Use a vertical photo for 9:16.
- On 1,080 × 1,920, keep face and name between 269 and 1,248 pixels from the top.
- Keep text 65 pixels in from each side.
- Zoom to 200% and run the short-i and halant tests.
- Use a font with a licence file, such as Noto Sans Devanagari or Gujarati.
- Make the name larger than the date.
- Ask everyone pictured, and offer a crop-out.
- Send it to yourself and read the name at thumbnail size on a phone.
When a one-to-one photo invite is the wrong card
The interactive link is the wrong tool for a group invite. A society night, an office garba or a family puja needs one image that forty people can read in a group chat, and the 4:5 or 1:1 card does that better.
It also loses when the card must be printed for a notice board. If the plan is dinner after garba rather than garba itself, a date invitation page fits that question better than a dandiya pass.
