- • Send four short messages: a save-the-date email and calendar invite 7 days ahead, a colour mail the working day before, and a reminder 2 to 3 hours before the event.
- • In SubhSandesh's Raksha Bandhan 2026 data (n=89, an analogue, not Navratri), 49.4% of pages were built on the festival day, so the same-day reminder does the most work.
- • Navratri 2026 colours per Drik Panchang (New Delhi) run orange on Sunday 11 October to peacock green on Monday 19 October; the list changes with the starting weekday every year.
- • Ashtami and Navami share Monday 19 October 2026, so a 'Day 8 is Mahagauri on 18 October' line is wrong this year.
- • Write 'optional', label a vrat table, offer non-dancing roles and add a video link; a 2018 IISc study met a Catholic scientist joining a workplace puja only to please colleagues.

Navratri Invitation for Office: Emails, Colours and Slack Posts
A Navratri invitation for office works best as four short messages: an all-staff email a week ahead, a calendar invite, a colour mail before day one and a same-day reminder. Attendance, dress code and dancing should all be clearly optional. Sharad Navratri 2026 runs from Sunday 11 October to Monday 19 October, and Dussehra falls on Tuesday 20 October in Delhi but Wednesday 21 October in Bengal and Mysuru.
Two of our own numbers shape the timing. In our Raksha Bandhan 2026 measurement (n=89, the nearest analogue we have, not Navratri data), 49.4% of pages were built on the festival day itself, so the same-day reminder does more work than the first email. And 48.3% of the 57,456 views of SubhSandesh pages came from a phone, which is why every template below fits one phone screen.
Below: six paste-ready texts, the 2026 colours by date, and the inclusion lines.
What should a Navratri invitation for office include?
A Navratri invitation for office is a workplace notice from HR, a staff committee or a team lead inviting colleagues to a festival event. It reaches people of every faith and none, so it informs and welcomes without assuming anyone celebrates.
It needs seven things: the event; the date with start and end times; the venue plus a video link; an optional dress code; food with vrat (fasting) and regular options labelled; an RSVP date; and a line saying attendance is voluntary.
In 2026 Durga Ashtami and Maha Navami both fall on Monday 19 October (IST), so an "Ashtami lunch" and a "Navami puja" are the same day. Check any date you print against a panchang set to an Indian city.
Six office Navratri invitation templates, ready to paste
Each template opens with the same fields: when to send, the channel, the length. Every line is original; copy freely.
1. All-staff email
Send 5 to 7 working days ahead, by email, at about 100 words. Subjects: "Navratri at [Company]: garba evening Fri 16 Oct, all welcome" or "Save the date: Navratri celebration, 4:30 to 6:30 pm".
Hi everyone, Navratri, the nine-night Hindu festival of the goddess Durga, runs from 11 to 19 October. We are marking it with a garba and dandiya evening on Friday 16 October, 4:30 to 6:30 pm, in [venue], with a video link for anyone remote.
Snacks will include labelled vrat (fasting) options and regular vegetarian food. Wear the colour of the day if you like; office wear is completely fine. Come for the dancing, the food or ten minutes; it is entirely optional. Please RSVP by Wednesday 14 October: [link].
2. Calendar invite text
Send with the email, in Google Calendar or Outlook, in under 50 words. Set it to show as "free" so it blocks nobody's diary.
Navratri garba evening (optional), [venue] + video link. 4:30 to 6:30 pm. Labelled vrat food. Colour of the day: green; office wear is fine. Sticks provided, no experience needed, and no need to dance.
3. Nine-colours dress-code mail
Send on the last working day before day one (Friday 9 October in 2026), by email or pinned post, list plus two lines.
Navratri colours, if you would like to join in: [list for the year]. It is a light, optional theme: wear the colour, add a scarf or tie in it, or skip it. Nobody is counted, and nobody is photographed for the team post without being asked.
4. Office garba or dandiya night
Send 7 days ahead, by email plus a poster, at about 80 words; an outside venue needs a headcount.
Garba night: Thursday 15 October, 7 to 9:30 pm at [venue]. Cabs leave at 9:30 pm; add your drop point in the form. A 20-minute beginners' circle opens the night, and dandiya sticks are on us. Dinner has a vrat counter and a regular vegetarian counter. Dancing is optional. RSVP by Monday 12 October.
5. Slack or Teams announcement
Post with the email and pin it, under 50 words.
Navratri garba evening: Fri 16 Oct, 4:30 to 6:30 pm, [venue] + video link. Vrat-friendly food, sticks provided, optional colour (green). Come for ten minutes or the whole thing. RSVP in this thread by Wed 14 Oct.
6. Same-day reminder
Send 2 to 3 hours before, on Slack or Teams, in two lines.
Garba starts at 4:30 today in [venue]; the video link is in the invite. Vrat plates are on the left table. See you there, or enjoy your evening.
When should HR send each office Navratri message?
Our only festival-timing data comes from Raksha Bandhan 2026: 89 pages, a one-day festival, too small for any per-group rate. Read it as an analogue, not a Navratri measurement. It says people act late, so late messages carry the load.
| Message | When to send (for a 15 or 16 Oct 2026 event) | Channel | What SubhSandesh data says about the timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Save-the-date email and calendar invite | Thu 8 Oct | Email, calendar | No rakhi page was built more than 7 days ahead |
| Nine-colours mail | Fri 9 Oct | Email, pinned post | 27.0% were built the day before |
| Same-day reminder | 2 to 3 hours before | Slack or Teams | 49.4% were built on the festival day; median lead time 0 days |
| One-to-one garba-buddy link (personal, not HR) | The day before or the day | Personal WhatsApp | 48.3% of page views are on a phone |
If HR can send only one extra message, make it the same-day reminder.
Navratri colours 2026 for the office dress-code mail
Drik Panchang's Navratri nine colours page gives these for 2026, New Delhi:
- Sunday 11 October: orange
- Monday 12 October: white
- Tuesday 13 October: red
- Wednesday 14 October: royal blue
- Thursday 15 October: yellow
- Friday 16 October: green
- Saturday 17 October: grey
- Sunday 18 October: purple
- Monday 19 October: peacock green
Drik says the first colour depends on the weekday Navratri begins. In its calendars, days one to seven follow the weekday (Sunday orange, Monday white, and so on) and the last two change by year: 2027 starts on Thursday 30 September with yellow and ends in pink and purple. Never forward last year's mail.
Drik adds that the custom is strongest in Gujarat and Maharashtra, where women wear the colour "whether it is going to work or going for Dandiya and Garba".
One trap: 2026 does not map one goddess per date. Saptami spans 17 and 18 October and Ashtami and Navami share 19 October, so "Day 8 is Mahagauri on 18 October" is wrong. Stick to dates and colours.
How do you make an office Navratri celebration inclusive?
An office is not a temple committee. Your team includes other faiths, no faith, and Hindus who mark Navratri differently or not at all.
Make attendance opt-in, and mean it
Thomas and Geraci's 2018 study in Zygon, from fieldwork at the Indian Institute of Science in 2012 and 2016, describes a festival held in its offices, labs and workshops. One professor estimated 80% take part, yet the authors met a Catholic scientist who joins "only to make his Hindu colleagues happy".
Write "optional", do not track attendance, and never set a deadline inside the event. Offer non-dancing roles too: garba is mostly danced in a circle where partners rotate, but dandiya raas is a paired stick dance, and not everyone wants to partner their manager.
Do not call it "just culture"
The same study found many scientists calling the puja cultural, not religious; the authors argue this framing reinforces the majority religion rather than making room for others. Say it plainly: "Navratri is a Hindu festival, and everyone is welcome to join the celebration."
Feed the fasting and the non-fasting
Not every Hindu colleague fasts. A Loughborough University officer, writing on its EDI blog in October 2023, notes that "some fast during Navratri; I do not". Label a vrat table separately and ask fasting colleagues what they eat; rules differ by family.
The closest workplace research is on another fast. A 2025 PLOS ONE study of Muslims observing Ramadan in northern England (7 interviews, a 4-person focus group) found participants wanted adjusted break times and flexible working, and valued colleagues who brought dates and water to those fasting on night duty. The lesson carries: ask, label, and time the food.
Include remote and hybrid staff
A 2025 review of 65 peer-reviewed telework articles in Healthcare concludes that physical separation from the workplace and less contact with colleagues weaken the sense of organisational belonging. Put the video link in every message and plan a 15-minute online segment, such as a colour-of-the-day photo thread.
Respect the morning after
The Loughborough author describes garba from 8 pm to midnight, bed around 2 am, and half-days of leave to start at 1 pm. Skip 9 am meetings that week. A 2022 BMC Health Services Research study of Oslo nursing homes (16 interviews) found staff whose holidays differed from Christmas and Easter swapped days off by when each person celebrated.
When is an office invitation, or SubhSandesh, the wrong tool?
SubhSandesh's Be My Dandiya Partner page is not an office tool: it is a one-to-one invitation for a love, a crush or a best friend as garba buddy. For a team invite, use the email above; for other occasions, browse the full SubhSandesh template gallery.
It fits only when a colleague is also a close friend you want as your garba buddy. Then the Be My Dandiya Partner invitation lets you write nine short lines, one for each night, add up to six photos, and set the date, time, venue and dress code.
It opens in a phone browser with no app or account. Send it from your personal phone.
Two warnings: its No button turns into a second Yes after five tries, charming between friends but wrong for anyone you manage, and the page is in English only. A link also loses on a factory floor without company email, where a printed notice at the time clock works better.
