- • In Kolkata, Durga Puja 2026 runs from Shashthi on 16–17 October to Bijoya Dashami on Wednesday 21 October, per Drik Panchang; Ashtami, Kumari Puja and Sandhi Puja all fall on Monday 19 October.
- • A romantic Pujo wish names a shared moment (the first pandal, the Ashtami sari, the anjali, Bijoya) instead of a blessing anyone could forward.
- • 48.3% of SubhSandesh pages are opened on a phone, so daytime Pujo wishes should fit one WhatsApp screen; save a page for one evening.
- • Shubho Bijoya to her parents is a formal pronam, and only once her family already knows you.
- • The dandiya invitation is a weak fit for Pujo, whose dance is the dhunuchi naach; an invitation that unlocks a plan stop by stop suits pandal-hopping better.

Durga Puja Wishes for Girlfriend, From Shashthi to Shubho Bijoya
Durga Puja wishes for girlfriend land best when each one is pinned to a day of Pujo you will actually share: the first pandal on Shashthi, her Ashtami sari, the anjali queue, the last look at the goddess on Dashami. Below: lines for each of the five days, original Bengali lines, a boyfriend set, and Shubho Bijoya for her family.
In Kolkata in 2026 that runs from Shashthi on 16 and 17 October to Bijoya Dashami on Wednesday 21 October, per Drik Panchang's Kolkata Durga Puja calendar. On SubhSandesh, the "I love you" page alone accounts for 1,182 pages, 22.7% of everything created, and 48.3% of shared pages are opened on a phone, so a Pujo wish must fit one WhatsApp screen.
What makes a Durga Puja wish romantic and not generic?
A romantic Durga Puja wish names a Pujo moment the two of you share, such as a pandal, the anjali, the dhak or Bijoya, instead of a blessing anyone could forward to anyone. Generic lines ask for prosperity; hers says you saved Saptami night for her.
Bengalis have a name for the season's romance: Pujo prem. A 2001 Outlook feature by Manjira Majumdar quoted the magician P.C. Sorcar, who met his wife at his locality Durga Puja: "Romances during the pujas are not mere flings. They do last."
That public romance is newer than the festival. In 19th-century Calcutta, women of wealthy babu households stayed in the inner quarters and emerged during Durga Puja only for daytime rituals, according to Monolina Bhattacharyya in the Journal of Festive Studies (2024). She dates the shift to community pujas to the Barowari Puja at Guptipara in 1790, the ancestor of today's sarbojanin pandals where couples walk together.
Durga Puja wishes for girlfriend, day by day
Dates are Drik Panchang's for Kolkata; other cities can shift by a day. Each day ends with two original lines.
1. Shashthi: the first evening out
- When: 16–17 October 2026 (Bilva Nimantran, then Akal Bodhon).
- What's happening: the goddess is unveiled, and the first pandal visit sets the tone.
- Send: the afternoon before you meet.
- Avoid: fixing all five days in one message.
- "Five days of Pujo and I want the first evening to be ours. Shashthi, 7 pm, you pick the pandal."
- "The city is out to see Ma Durga. I'm going out mostly to see you."
2. Saptami: the pandal-hopping night
- When: Sunday 18 October 2026, the day of Kolabou Puja.
- What's happening: the longest walking night. A DiGRA 2024 paper by Kar, Mukherjee and Rizvi puts Kolkata's average Pujo footfall at 10 million and studied 2023 pandals themed on chessboards and snakes and ladders.
- Send: before you set out.
- "Ten pandals, one hand to hold in the crowd. Wear comfortable shoes and keep the hand free."
- "Every pandal this year has a theme. Mine is the same as last year: you."
3. Ashtami: the anjali and the outfit
- When: Monday 19 October 2026, when Drik's Kolkata calendar places Durga Ashtami, Kumari Puja and Sandhi Puja on the same day.
- What's happening: the morning anjali, often after a fast, and the year's best sari.
- Send: after the anjali, not during.
- Avoid: "what are you wearing" texts before she has eaten.
- "I waited all year for your Ashtami sari. It was worth the wait, and so was the queue."
- "You offered your anjali for everyone you love. I hope I made the list."
4. Navami: the last full night
- When: Tuesday 20 October 2026.
- What's happening: the dhunuchi naach, danced with clay incense burners to the dhak, and the feeling that Pujo is ending.
- Send: late evening.
- Avoid: turning the night into a debate about next year's plans.
- "The dhak is louder tonight because everyone knows tomorrow is Dashami. Stay out with me a little longer."
- "If Pujo had to end somewhere, I'm glad it ends next to you."
5. Dashami: Shubho Bijoya
- When: Wednesday 21 October 2026, when Drik lists Bengal's Durga Visarjan and Sindoor Utsav.
- What's happening: the immersion, the Bijoya greetings, sweets and touching elders' feet.
- Send: after the visarjan.
- Avoid: sindoor-khela jokes; it is traditionally played by married women.
- "Shubho Bijoya. Ma has gone home; I'm glad you're still here."
- "Aashchhe bochhor abar hobe, and next year too I want to walk it with you."
Bengali Pujo lines for your girlfriend, with romanisation
Six original lines: Bengali script, romanised, English gloss. Spellings of the key words were checked against the Samsad Bengali-English Dictionary (Biswas) on the University of Chicago's DSAL, which lists প্যান্ডেল as "a temporary shed erected for social or religious festivals" (p. 669).
- এই পুজোয় সব প্যান্ডেল তোমার সাথে।
- Ei pujoy shob pandel tomar shathe.
- "This Pujo, every pandal with you."
- অষ্টমীর শাড়িতে তোমায় দেখার অপেক্ষায় গোটা বছর কাটল।
- Oshtomir sharite tomay dekhar opekkhay gota bochhor katlo.
- "A whole year went by waiting to see you in your Ashtami sari."
- ঢাকের আওয়াজে আমার বুকের ধুকপুক শুনতে পাবে না, তাই লিখে দিলাম: ভালোবাসি।
- Dhaker awaje amar buker dhukpuk shunte pabe na, tai likhe dilam: bhalobashi.
- "Over the dhak you won't hear my heart, so I've written it down: I love you."
- অঞ্জলির ফুলে আমার একটাই চাওয়া, তুমি।
- Onjolir phule amar ektai chawa, tumi.
- "In my anjali flowers there was one wish: you."
- শুভ বিজয়া। মা চলে গেলেন, তুমি থেকো।
- Shubho Bijoya. Ma chole gelen, tumi theko.
- "Shubho Bijoya. Ma has left; you stay."
- এবার পুজোয় তুমি কলকাতায়, আমি অনেক দূরে, তবু প্রতিটা প্যান্ডেলের ছবি পাঠিও।
- Ebar pujoy tumi Kolkatay, ami onek dure, tobu protita pandeler chhobi pathio.
- "This Pujo you're in Kolkata and I'm far away; send me a photo of every pandal anyway."
Durga Puja wishes for boyfriend
The same days work in reverse: his panjabi, the queue he stood in, the dhunuchi he tried. Navami falls on Tuesday 20 October 2026 in Kolkata, the night most of these suit.
- "You stood in a 40-minute pandal queue without complaining once. That's the Pujo miracle I'll remember."
- "Wear the white panjabi on Ashtami. I've already planned my sari around it."
- "পাঞ্জাবিটা পরে এসো, ষষ্ঠীর সন্ধ্যায় দেখা হবে।" (Panjabita pore esho, Shoshthir shondhyay dekha hobe: "Wear the panjabi; see you on Shashthi evening.")
How do you wish Shubho Bijoya to your girlfriend's family?
On Bijoya Dashami the greeting goes beyond the two of you, to her parents and elders. Samsad's entry for বিজয়া gives it as "the day on which the image of Durga is immersed", and its বিজয়া সংগীত as songs of Durga leaving her parental home; UNESCO's 2021 inscription likewise reads the festival as a "home-coming".
To elders, Bijoya is a pronam, not a pet name. Use the formal আপনি and keep it short:
- "শুভ বিজয়ার প্রণাম নেবেন।" (Shubho Bijoyar pronam neben: "Please accept my Bijoya pronam.")
- "Shubho Bijoya, Kaku and Kakima. Thank you for having me over during Pujo."
Send it only if her family already knows you, and let her read it first. A Bijoya text from a stranger to her father explains too much.
Text, page or invitation: what fits each Pujo moment?
Each Pujo moment has a best format, set out below with the SubhSandesh number behind each choice. None of those numbers is about Pujo itself; SubhSandesh holds no Durga Puja data yet.
| Moment | 2026 date (Kolkata) | Best format | SubhSandesh data behind it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Asking her out pandal-hopping | 16–17 Oct (Shashthi) | Invitation page | 49.4% of Raksha Bandhan pages were built on the day itself (n = 89) |
| Ashtami morning, after anjali | 19 Oct | Short WhatsApp text | 48.3% of shared pages are opened on a phone |
| Navami night "I love you" | 20 Oct | "I love you" page | love-gf draws 29.7% of all page views |
| Long-distance Pujo | 16–21 Oct | Page with a password | 38.5% of creators add a password |
| Bijoya to her family | 21 Oct | Plain text, no link | Elders get a pronam, not a page |
Takeaway: text by day, a page for the one evening that matters. The lead-time row is Raksha Bandhan data, a different festival and a small sample, used only as the nearest analogue.
For the pandal night, The Invitation template fits better than anything festival-branded: she must answer, a yes turns into a countdown, and on the day the plan unlocks one stop at a time while you are out. For a Navami confession, the "I love you" page draws 29.7% of all page views on the platform.
The Be My Dandiya Partner invitation is a weaker fit. Garba and dandiya belong to Navratri in Gujarat, which runs 11 to 19 October in 2026; Pujo's dance is the dhunuchi naach.
It still works if your Kolkata housing society runs a dandiya night alongside its Pujo: nine short lines, one for each night of Navratri, up to six photos, and a No button that turns into a second Yes after five tries. Its own schema sets isAccessibleForFree to true, the page UI is in English, and it is a one-to-one invitation, not a group invite.
When a Durga Puja wish is the wrong move
A message loses to being there. If you are both at the same Maddox Square adda, say the line out loud; a link sent across one pandal crowd reads as avoidance.
It is also wrong when her family does not know. 38.5% of our creators put a password on a page, but a password guards the page, not the lock-screen preview of the text carrying it; keep pet names out of the first line. And during the Ashtami fast, do not expect a reply before the anjali is done.
An English page is also the wrong tool for an elder who reads only Bengali. 90.9% of started SubhSandesh pages get published, but that says people finish them, not that every relative wants one.
