Halloween Bio Ideas: 45 Spooky Lines Sorted by Character Count
The best Halloween bio ideas fit the box you paste them into, and that box is smaller than most lists assume: Instagram allows 150 characters, X allows 160, and WhatsApp's About takes one emoji plus just 50 characters of text, per each platform's help page as checked on 13 October 2026. All 45 original bios below are counted and sorted into length bands. Bios are mostly read on phones and seen by everyone: 48.3% of the personal pages shared through SubhSandesh open on a phone, and 38.5% of our creators add a password before sharing one, which tells you how many messages people would rather keep off a public profile.
Below: the dated limits, the lines in five groups, timing, and where a bio is the wrong place for what you want to say. The limits come first, because they decide which lines you can use.
How long can a bio be on Instagram, X, WhatsApp and TikTok?
Limits change, so these are dated: every figure was read on the platform's own help page on 13 October 2026. Where an official page stated no limit, we print none.
| Profile field | Official limit (checked 13 Oct 2026) | Rule worth knowing | Groups below that fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Instagram bio | 150 characters | Public: anyone can see it | All five |
| X bio | 160 characters | Separate name, location and website fields | All five |
| WhatsApp About | One emoji plus 50 characters of text | Can be set to expire after a chosen duration | 1, 2 and 5 |
| TikTok name (nickname) | 30 characters | Can be changed once every 7 days | 1 only |
Instagram's page on adding a bio gives 150 characters, and X's profile customisation guide gives 160. WhatsApp is the tight one: its page on editing your About allows an emoji and up to 50 characters, so a full Instagram bio will not fit.
TikTok's nickname help page caps the name at 30 characters with one change every 7 days; the app has been blocked in India since June 2020. Its bio article did not load for us, and we found no official Threads page stating a bio limit, so for those two trust the counter in the app.
How is a Halloween bio different from a caption?
A Halloween bio is the short line on your profile that introduces you to anyone who taps your name during October. A caption belongs to one post and scrolls away; a bio stays until you remember to change it.
People rarely do. In a study of about 20 million Twitter users from 2015 to 2018, Rogers and Jones (Journal of Social Computing, March 2021) found the average user tweets roughly once a month but amends their bio only once a year. A seasonal bio is an unusual edit, so plan the day you undo it.
45 Halloween bio ideas, grouped by length
Every line is original, carries no emoji and was counted including spaces and punctuation. An emoji costs at least one more character, so leave headroom in the tight fields.
1. Under 30 characters: fits every field, even a TikTok name
These fit the 30-character TikTok name and leave WhatsApp room for an emoji. They work as a mood, not a joke that needs setting up.
- Seasonally haunted
- Ghost mode: selectively on
- Professional pumpkin whisperer
- Mostly cobwebs and opinions
- Fluent in creaky floorboards
- Moonlit and mildly cursed
- Sweets first, spells later
- Open during witching hours
- Porch light on, bowl topped up
- Skeleton crew of one
- Small ghost, very big bucket
2. 31 to 50 characters: the WhatsApp About band
Written for WhatsApp's 50-character About, these sit comfortably on Instagram or X too. Each holds one idea, because 50 characters cannot carry two.
- Collecting full-size bars and grudges
- Haunting the group chat, not the house
- Costume planned since March, still unsewn
- Lives in the attic, pays rent in toffee
- Answering only to knocks after dark
- On first-name terms with the full moon
- Fog machine fan, reluctant extrovert
- Will swap a chocolate bar for a ghost story
- Pumpkin carver, seed roaster, mess maker
- Fine with the dark, scared of small talk
- Kind ghost, polite boo, sticky fingers
3. 51 to 80 characters: room for a character
This band suits Instagram and X when you want a small scene rather than a label. Several say who you are, a parent, a couple, a student, as well as what season it is.
- Rewatching the same three scary films and calling it research
- Hands out the good sweets and judges your costume quietly
- Part witch, part houseplant parent, all in on 31 October
- Two pumpkins, one porch, zero agreed costume plans so far
- Costume tailor for two tiny monsters and chief sweet auditor
- Reading ghost stories by torchlight like it is 1820
- Midterms by day, haunted house volunteer by night, coffee always
- Celebrating Halloween from Pune, one paper bat at a time
- Glow sticks charged, wellies by the door, fog forecast
- Little witch in training, broom licence still pending inspection
4. 81 to 150 characters: a full Instagram or X bio
These use most of Instagram's 150 characters and all fit X's 160. Two short sentences read best here; a third tends to get cut off on a phone.
- Ghost in training, currently stuck between two walls, emotionally and literally. Leave a toffee at the door and I will stop rattling the shutters.
- I carve one pumpkin a year and name it after whoever annoyed me most. This year's lantern has a very familiar smile.
- Half of a matching-costume couple. The other half has not agreed to the costume yet. Negotiations resume after dinner.
- Parent to a dinosaur, a fairy and a very small vampire until 1 November. Snack bag packed, torch batteries checked twice.
- Reader of old ghost stories, keeper of the candle drawer, sure that every library has one shelf nobody touches.
- Office hours by day. By night I hand out full-size bars and score every costume out of ten in my head.
- Friendly ghost, big smile, bigger sweet tooth. Says boo very politely and always asks before taking a second sweet.
5. Swap-back lines for 1 November
These bridge Halloween and your normal bio, all under 50 characters so WhatsApp takes them too. Post one on 1 November, then restore your usual bio a few days later.
- Ghost hours are over. Normal bio returns soon.
- Costume returned, sweet count classified
- Back from the other side. What did I miss?
- Pumpkin composted, personality restored
- Cape on its hanger until next 31 October
- Survived Halloween. Keeping the fangs.
Spooky, cute or funny: what a short bio tells strangers
Strangers read tone from very little text. In Brauer and Proyer's 2024 paper, 160 adults wrote brief self-descriptions and six judges who had never met them rated each writer's playfulness; the ratings agreed with the writers' own above chance.
So choose a group by the impression you want, not only by fit. A group 1 line reads light, a group 4 story reads as patient humour, and on a work-adjacent account the gentler group 3 lines are safer.
When should you change your Halloween bio, and when should you change it back?
Halloween is Saturday 31 October 2026 and Sunday 31 October 2027, with All Saints' Day on 1 November and Día de los Muertos on 1 and 2 November. Given the once-a-year editing habit above, the real risk is forgetting to switch back.
TikTok's 7-day rule needs the most planning. Rename yourself no later than Sunday 25 October 2026 (Monday 25 October 2027) if you want your usual name back on 1 November; a WhatsApp About can simply be set to expire.
Leaving it late is normal. Our nearest measured analogue is Raksha Bandhan, not Halloween: of 89 rakhi pages built in 2026, 49.4% were made on the festival day and 27.0% the day before, a sample too small for anything finer.
A bio is public; a Halloween page is for one person
Instagram says anyone can see your bio, and WhatsApp shows your About to all your contacts by default. That suits a mood line, and it is wrong for a crush hint or an in-joke meant for one person.
For that person, the interactive Halloween card with photos and music takes about 5 minutes: up to six photos, a letter read by flashlight in a little haunted house and "Will you be my boo?" at the end. It finishes on a 1080×1920 Boo License, Instagram Story size, which they can download and post.
Want more of your voice in it? The premium cinematic Halloween page takes about 10 minutes and adds a voice note of up to 60 seconds, up to 12 photos, an optional unlock time and a reply box for one answer up to 280 characters. SubhSandesh pages average 11.1 views each (views, not unique visitors), so they get reopened in a way a bio rarely is.
If your bio has been dropping hints and you would rather ask outright, a date invitation they have to answer turns a yes into a countdown to the plan. A profile line cannot collect an answer at all.
When a Halloween bio is the wrong choice
Skip the spooky bio on a profile you use for job applications, or on a family WhatsApp where some relatives do not mark Halloween. A neutral group 3 line, or no change, is the better call there.
SubhSandesh loses here too. Its Halloween pages are one-person greetings with an English-only interface, they appear in a bio only as a link, and they are not party invitations for a crowd; if a seasonal profile line is all you want, the lists above are enough.
