What is a Halloween birthday wish?
A Halloween birthday wish is a birthday message that borrows Halloween imagery, such as pumpkins, ghosts, costumes or candy, because the birthday falls on or near 31 October or the party has a spooky theme. It names the person and the year ahead before it plays with the holiday.
It serves two groups: people born between 30 October and 1 November, and anyone throwing a spooky-themed birthday in another month. Halloween is a Saturday in 2026 and a Sunday in 2027, so weekend parties will compete with the cake.
How rare is a 31 October birthday? US and UK birth data
In the United States, 31 October is one of the least common birthdays. I ran the FiveThirtyEight's US daily births series, 2000 to 2014, from Social Security records, and 31 October averaged 10,263 births against a daily mean of 11,350, ranking 355th of the 365 regular dates.
The dip belongs to the day itself. Against the same weekday a week before and a week after, 31 October ran 11.8% lower across those 15 years, while 30 October ran 2.6% lower and 1 November 1.8% higher. Still, about 153,900 Americans born then share Halloween as a birthday.
England and Wales show no dip. The Office for National Statistics birthday popularity data for 1995 to 2014, published 18 December 2015, gives 31 October an average of 1,803 births a day against a 1,813 mean, 197th of 365 by my count. Neither dataset explains the US drop, though Macfarlane and Dattani's 2019 linked-records analysis found planned caesareans clustered into weekday mornings, so hospital timetables do move birth dates.

- Halloween distracted me, but you're worth remembering all month. Happy belated birthday.
How to keep the birthday from vanishing into Halloween
Send the wish before 10 a.m., on its own rather than inside a group Halloween message. Evenings fill fast on a weekend Halloween, and a morning message gets read before the party noise.
Use one Halloween reference per wish. Two puns turn it into a seasonal greeting with a name attached.
Families protect birthday gatherings even under pressure: a 2026 JAMA Network Open cohort study of 1,106,493 grandparents in Denmark found a 9.9% higher hazard of SARS-CoV-2 infection in the week after a grandchild's birthday, despite periods of official advice not to gather. A birthday sharing its date with a bigger holiday deserves that loyalty too.
Which format suits a Halloween birthday wish? 4 options compared
Four ways to send the lines above. Values reflect what each format holds.
| Format | Time to make | Photos | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Text message | Under 1 minute | 0–1 attached | Coworkers, group chats, belated wishes |
| Handwritten card | 10–15 minutes plus delivery | 0 | Grandparents, kids who keep cards |
| Interactive Halloween card page | About 5 minutes | Up to 6 | A friend, sibling or child born on 31 October |
| Premium Halloween page | About 10 minutes | Up to 12, plus a 60-second voice note | A partner whose birthday is Halloween |
A text wins on speed; a page wins when the birthday deserves more. Each created SubhSandesh page averages 11.1 views.
Sending the wish as a Halloween birthday page
Neither Halloween template has a birthday mode, so the birthday lives in your letter and photos. For a playful card, the interactive Halloween card with photos and music needs roughly five minutes and up to 6 photos and its closing question (60 characters maximum) can become a birthday one. The Boo License says "Valid every 31 October, forever", which lands differently when that date is their birthday.
For a partner, the premium Halloween page with a voice note and unlock time needs roughly ten minutes and holds 12 photos, a 60-second voice note and a 3,000-character letter. Set its unlock time to midnight on their birthday, so until then they see just their name and a countdown, and they can answer once through the reply box.
For a birthday unrelated to Halloween, a birthday surprise page for a partner fits better, and the full template gallery covers friends and family on other dates. 38.5% of creators password-protect their page before sharing it, an option on both Halloween templates.
When a Halloween birthday wish is the wrong choice
Some 31 October people dislike the theme after decades of costume-party birthdays. If they have ever said "it's my birthday, not Halloween", send a plain birthday message and leave the pumpkins out.
It also misfires for anyone who skips Halloween on religious grounds, a child scared of ghosts, or someone grieving near All Souls' Day on 2 November. For a relative without a phone or laptop, a posted card beats any link, and both templates are English-only, one-person pages that cannot invite a crowd.
