- • 24 original pregnancy costumes in five groups: no-bump first trimester, bump-as-prop second trimester, comfort-first third trimester, couple and family sets, and announcements.
- • Every costume is rated for comfort from 1 to 3 (waistband, heat, footwear), with an estimated US$10–60 material cost and 45 minutes to 3 hours of DIY.
- • ACOG advises avoiding overheating, especially in the first trimester, and warns that standing motionless can pool blood in the legs, so two third-trimester ideas are played seated.
- • The NHS recommends flat shoes in pregnancy to spread weight evenly; every idea here works in flats.
- • 48.3% of SubhSandesh pages are opened on a phone and 38.5% of creators add a password (platform-wide, not Halloween data), which matters if a bump photo is also an announcement.

Halloween Costumes for Pregnant Women, Sorted by Trimester
The best Halloween costumes for pregnant women match the trimester: costumes that need no bump early on, the bump as the main prop in the middle months, and loose, seated, flat-shoe builds at the end. Below are 24 original ideas with comfort scores, estimated US costs and DIY times. Halloween falls on Saturday 31 October 2026 and Sunday 31 October 2027.
Bump photos usually travel by link, and 48.3% of shared SubhSandesh pages are opened on a phone (platform-wide, not Halloween data). If the photo doubles as an announcement, 38.5% of our creators password-protect a page before sharing it. Every idea works whether you are expecting with a partner, on your own, or carrying for another family as a surrogate.
How do pregnant Halloween costumes change by trimester?
A pregnancy costume has to fit the body you will have on 31 October, not the one you shop with. Pregnancy is usually split into trimesters of roughly weeks 1–12, 13–27 and 28 to birth.
Decide early: in our nearest festival data, 49.4% of Raksha Bandhan 2026 pages were built on the festival day itself (n = 89, a different festival used only as an analogue). Each idea below lists its weeks and a comfort score from 3 (no waistband, cool fabric, flat shoes) down to 1, with brackets naming what costs a point.
24 pregnant Halloween costumes by trimester and comfort
None of these hides the bump; the first group simply suits anyone who has not told people yet. A "partner" in the couple sets can be a sister, a friend or a toddler.

5. Pregnancy announcement costumes: 3 ideas, only when you are ready
Tell the people closest to you before a party does it for you. A surrogate's announcement belongs to the intended parents, and some guests may be living through infertility or loss, so a family-only photo is often kinder.
- Seed packet: tan tunic printed "Variety: one small human. Sown: [month]. Expected: [due month]." (weeks 12–30 · comfort 3 · est. US$10–20 · 1 h)
- Countdown calendar page: a calendar grid, days crossed off, the due date circled in red (weeks 12–36 · comfort 3 · est. US$10–15 · 45 min).
- Library due-date card: a paper pocket holding a stamped card: "Due: [month and year]. No renewals." (weeks 12–36 · comfort 3 · est. US$10–15 · 45 min)
Pregnant costumes compared: trimester, comfort and est. cost
One costume per group, scored as in the lists. Costs are material estimates.
| Trimester | Costume | Comfort score (1–3) | Est. cost (US$) |
|---|---|---|---|
| First or small bump | Glinda the Good | 2 | 25–40 |
| Second | Humpty Dumpty | 3 | 15–25 |
| Third | The Lady of Shalott, seated | 3 | 15–25 |
| Couple or family | The tortoise and the hare | 3 | 25–40 for two |
| Announcement | Seed packet | 3 | 10–20 |
Cost barely moves across trimesters. Comfort does, so the late picks lean on seated characters.
Safety on the night: heat, shoes, standing and face paint
If your pregnancy is high-risk, ask your midwife or doctor first. This guidance is general, not medical clearance.
Heat. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) exercise-in-pregnancy FAQ, updated September 2024, advises avoiding overheating, especially in the first trimester, and recommends loose clothing and plenty of water. It targets workouts, but parties run warm too, so pick a costume that strips to a T-shirt.
Shoes and falls. ACOG notes that extra weight at the front shifts your centre of gravity and raises the risk of falling. The NHS page on back pain in pregnancy, last reviewed 10 January 2024, recommends flat shoes to spread your weight evenly, so every costume here is built for flats.
Standing time. The same ACOG page says standing motionless can cause blood to pool in the legs and feet, and lists feeling dizzy or faint as a warning sign. Plan a chair into the night.
Face paint, body paint and fake blood. Health Canada's advice on using cosmetics safely, dated 28 February 2019, warns that make-up can cause allergic reactions and skin irritation. It suggests a patch test on the inside of the forearm, washed off after 24 hours, and dropping any product that changes in smell, colour or feel. The page is not pregnancy-specific, so treat fake blood and bump paint the same way and use only products made for skin.
What research says about dressing a pregnant body
A 2022 narrative review of maternity-wear research by Shamsaei and colleagues concluded that maternity clothing needs adaptability, comfort and style. It stresses thermal and tactile comfort and easy dressing, the logic behind our scores.
The review also lists minimising "the protrusion of enlarged areas of the body" as a goal. On Halloween we suggest the opposite if you want it: the bump is the costume.
A 2026 interview study by Hannah Griffin of seven pregnant women aged 30 to 42 found five positive body image themes, including "celebrating the pregnant body". It is a small doctoral-conference study, and participants did not always notice that appreciation in themselves.
A bump photo for one person: the Halloween card
A bump photo can reach a grandparent-to-be privately. Our interactive Halloween card holds up to six photos, a letter and a word to carve on the pumpkin, and its family mode asks "Will you be my favourite little pumpkin?".
They knock three times, wipe fog off portraits to find your photos and read your letter by flashlight; you are emailed when they first answer. For a timed announcement, the premium Halloween page adds an optional unlock time with a countdown, a 60-second voice note and a reply box.
When these costumes, or our card, fall short
Bump-built costumes date fast: a design that fits at 22 weeks may not close at 34. Anyone told to limit standing should skip the party for a sofa photo.
The card is a one-person greeting page with an English-only interface, not a party invitation or a family-wide announcement. If your parents will be in the room on 31 October, telling them face to face beats any link.
