Halloween Games for Couples: 18 Two-Player Games With Forfeits
The best Halloween games for couples are built for two players, last 3 to 30 minutes and end in a forfeit. Below are 18 in five groups (conversation, competitive, co-op, long-distance, zero-prep), each with a rules card and a sweet or silly "loser does". Our favorite forfeit is a page the loser builds and sends: across SubhSandesh, 48.3% of shared pages are opened on a phone and 90.9% of started pages get published (platform-wide numbers, not Halloween data).
No game here is "dirty". Several top results for this search are bedroom games; these survive a roommate in earshot or a laptop camera.
What counts as a Halloween game for two?
A Halloween couples game is a contest or challenge for exactly two players, themed on 31 October, with a win condition and a forfeit. With no team to hide in, every round becomes a conversation.
Party games rarely translate, since Mafia needs a table of liars. All 18 below need only a kitchen drawer, and all but one finish within 30 minutes.
4 conversation games for two
These run on talk and suit a dinner table or a car. Points come from predicting your partner.
1. Spooky Would-You-Rather Predictions
- Rules: One reads a dilemma and secretly predicts the answer; the other answers aloud. Starter:
- Would you rather spend Halloween in a haunted lighthouse or a haunted library?
- Time: 15 min; materials: paper, pen; win: most correct predictions out of 10; loser does: makes the hot drinks all night.
2. The Horror-Self Quiz
- Rules: Answer ten questions about yourselves in secret, then guess each other's. Try:
- Which film made you sleep with the light on?
- Time: 20 min; materials: paper; win: more correct guesses; loser does: wears a silly hat until bedtime.
3. Two-Second Hot Seat
- Rules: For 90 seconds, fire this-or-that choices (vampire or werewolf?). A two-second pause or a laugh is a strike.
- Time: 10 min; materials: a phone timer; win: fewer strikes over three rounds; loser does: gives a 60-second shoulder rub.
4. Haunt Our Story
- Rules: Retell a real moment from your relationship as a two-minute ghost story. Your partner gets three questions to name it.

3 competitive Halloween couple games at home
For couples who like a scoreboard. Keep stakes small enough to tease about.
5. Pumpkin Carving Countdown
- Rules: Each secretly picks a face (a cat, a skull, your partner) and carves it in 20 minutes; then guess each other's. Use kit saws: in a 2004 cadaver-hand test in Preventive Medicine, pumpkin-carving tools caused fewer and milder injuries than kitchen knives.
- Time: 30 min; materials: two pumpkins, two carving kits; win: partner guesses it first try; loser does: roasts the seeds.
6. Candy Sommelier
- Rules: Blindfold your partner and offer five fun-size candies to name by brand, with a "tasting note" each. Swap; check allergies first.
- Time: 15 min; materials: 10 fun-size candies, a scarf; win: most brands named; loser does: surrenders their leftovers.
7. Closet Costume Sprint
- Rules: Each draws a theme the other wrote (a scarecrow, a haunted lamp) and builds it from the house in five minutes.
- Time: 15 min; materials: your wardrobe; win: named in one guess; loser does: wears it for the next game.
4 co-op challenges: escape room, blanket fort and more
You play on the same side, against a clock. Pick these when one of you hates losing.
8. Ten-Minute Codebreaker
- Rules: Solve three puzzles together; the answers' first letters spell the password.
- Riddle: I sleep upside down all day and fly out at dusk.
- Shift each letter back one place: PXM.
- Anagram: ON GEAR.
- Time: 10 min; materials: none; win: password in time (bat, owl, orange: BOO); loser does: if time runs out, you both dance to one song.
9. Blanket Fort Haunted House
- Rules: Build one fort with a tunnel, a light and a haunt (a sheet ghost or paper bat). LED lights only near fabric.
- Time: 30 min; materials: blankets, chairs, LED string lights; win: all three features in time; loser does: if not, the planner makes popcorn.
10. Back-to-Back Monster Drawing
- Rules: Back to back, one describes a secret monster drawing shape by shape; the other draws it. Swap.
- Time: 15 min; materials: paper, two pens; win: five matching features; loser does: if not, both drawings go on the fridge until 1 November.
11. One-Hand-Each Pumpkin
- Rules: Paint one pumpkin together with your non-dominant hands, without talking.
- Time: 25 min; materials: a pumpkin, paint, brushes; win: a recognizable face; loser does: if not, it still goes on the doorstep.
4 long-distance Halloween games over video call
Three need a live call; one works by text. Halloween reaches Sydney long before New York, so agree whose evening counts.
12. Show Me Something Orange
- Rules: Call a category (something orange, something furry); first to show one on camera scores.
- Time: 10 min; materials: a video call; win: first to 7; loser does: sings a Halloween song line.

14. Spot the Haunt
- Rules: Hide one Halloween object, pan your camera for 10 seconds, and your partner gets one guess.

15. Emoji Film Rebus
- Rules: Text film titles in emoji only; 60 seconds to answer, or no timer across big time gaps.
- Time: 5 to 20 min; materials: a messaging app; win: first to 5; loser does: sends the forfeit page below.
3 no-prep games for a queue or a power cut
No pen, candy or screen needed. These suit a queue.
16. Twenty Questions: Villain Edition
- Rules: Think of a horror villain or monster; your partner has 20 yes-or-no questions.

- Time: 3 min; materials: none; win: best of five; loser does: plants a forehead kiss on the winner.
Why playing games together helps couples: 3 studies
The evidence is suggestive, not settled. In a 2023 study of 277 adults in Current Psychology, humor was among the three ways of soothing a partner most tied to relationship satisfaction (r = .33).
A 2024 survey of 321 married participants in Korea found couples playing the same leisure sport together reported the highest intimacy and satisfaction of four groups. They also had the lowest divorce intention.
In a 2025 randomized trial in BMC Psychology, 40 couples in China and Malaysia took six 90-minute sessions built on a love-language card game and gained more satisfaction than a comparison workshop. The first two studies are correlational, and 40 couples is a small sample.
The five game types compared: minutes, prep and distance
Each group's range on time, setup and video-call fit; every game is for exactly two players. Minutes and prep are our estimates, and each game's own figures sit in its rules card above.
| Game type | Games | Minutes | Prep (min) | Works over video |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Conversation | 1โ4 | 10โ20 | 0โ5 | 4 of 4 |
| Competitive, same room | 5โ7 | 15โ30 | 2โ15 | 1 of 3 |
| Co-op against a clock | 8โ11 | 10โ30 | 0โ10 | 2 of 4 |
| Long-distance | 12โ15 | 5โ20, or a film's length | 0โ5 | 4 of 4 |
| Zero-prep | 16โ18 | 3โ10 | 0 | 3 of 3 |
Fourteen of 18 work over video, and eight need no prep. Only four need one room: Carving Countdown, Candy Sommelier, Blanket Fort and One-Hand Pumpkin.
The loser's forfeit: a Halloween page to build
The best forfeit is one the winner keeps. The final loser makes the winner a Halloween card page they play through: names, a letter, up to six photos and a word for the pumpkin, about five minutes' work.
The winner knocks three times, carves a pumpkin until the word glows and reads the letter by flashlight. The closing "Will you be my boo?" has a No button that dodges.
It travels as a private link. Pages on the platform average 11.1 views each, a long life for a forfeit.
The premium Halloween page hides candies holding sweet lines or cute dares. Settle ties in the Court of Love.
When to skip couple games: 3 cases
Skip them when one of you is exhausted or grieving; a scoreboard turns a tired evening into a chore. If one partner sulks after losing, play only games 8 to 11.
Mind allergies in the candy games. The forfeit page is English only, and on one sofa a handwritten IOU is quicker.
