What counts as a fair movie trivia question?
A fair movie trivia question asks for one checkable fact, such as a name, a year or a place, with one answer a quizmaster can defend. It needs no clip, still or line of dialogue, so it works read aloud in a dark room.
Hard questions still earn their place. Across three preregistered experiments with 419 adults, Liquin (2026, Open Mind) found that making a trivia answer costly to reach changed whether people chased it, but not how curious they felt.

Rounds 3 and 4 hold 5 of the 9 easy questions. Lead with them when children play.
How to host a Halloween movie trivia night: teams of 4 to 6, about 40 minutes
Play in teams. In a Swiss study, 197 healthcare students in groups of 5 to 7 took a 90-minute team pub quiz, and their teamwork scores rose (Büsser et al., BMC Medical Education, 2025). At Sheffield, 85 medical students preferred competing as a team over competing alone (Finch, The Clinical Teacher, 2026).
These rules suit 10 to 25 guests. Our untimed estimate: 30 questions fill 35 to 45 minutes, marking included.
- Teams: 4 to 6 players; at a family party, mix ages within each team.
- Timing: read each question twice, then allow 30 seconds.
- Scoring: 1 point per answer, 2 for an exact year. Surnames count; spelling doesn't.
- Phones: face down. A peek forfeits the round.
- Answers: reveal them after each round.
Give each team one answer sheet per round, in an identical layout. Teams swap sheets for marking, so nobody grades their own.
- Team name and round number at the top.
- Numbered lines 1 to 8.
- A round-total box for the marker.
- The tie-breaker on a separate strip.
For mixed ages, let under-12s answer easy questions alone for double points. That stops adults answering over them.
After the quiz: one interactive Halloween card for the champion
Our interactive Halloween card can't host a quiz; it is built for a single recipient, with English text and four modes (partner, bestie, family, kids). Make one for the champion: they pick trick or treat, clear misty portraits to reveal your pictures, then mix a potion out of memories you supplied. Site-wide, 90.9% of pages begun end up published and shared.
The cinematic premium page holds a voice clip capped at 60 seconds plus 12 photos. Use it to deliver the quizmaster's verdict aloud.
When a movie quiz is the wrong game: 3 cases
Trivia rewards people who have seen the films. With guests under about 8, adults answer while children wait, so pick an active game.
It also stalls when one team knows everything by round 2; make that film buff the quizmaster. And if you need a live scoreboard, our card isn't one.
