- • Among 14,533 online daters, women were 4 times less likely than men to send the first message, but women who wrote first connected with more desirable partners (Kreager et al., 2014).
- • On one Czech dating app the median man received 1 expression of interest and the median woman 18, so a line aimed at a guy is rare by default.
- • 48.3% of pages shared through SubhSandesh are opened on a phone, so a Halloween line for him should fit a phone screen.
- • End every dating-app line with a question: only 7% of women's messages in Kreager's data reached more than five exchanges.
- • A runaway-No "Will you be my boo?" page suits a boyfriend or husband, not a guy you have not spoken to yet.

Halloween Pickup Lines for Guys, Sorted by Who He Is to You
The best Halloween pickup lines for guys are short, clean and matched to the situation: a costume compliment for a crush at a party, a question he can answer for a dating-app match, and a gentle tease for a boyfriend or husband. Write them for a phone screen, because 48.3% of the pages shared through SubhSandesh are opened on a phone. Keep them private too: 38.5% of SubhSandesh creators password-protect a page before sending it.
Lines aimed at men also have rarity on their side. In six months of data on 14,533 online daters, women were 4 times less likely than men to send the first message, yet the women who did write first connected with more desirable partners (Kreager et al., Journal of Marriage and Family, 2014). Below are 32 original lines in four situations, a table of where each kind lands, and the follow-up for when he says yes.
Why do Halloween lines aimed at men land differently?
Men are rarely the ones being approached. On a Czech dating app analysed by Topinkova and Diviak in PLOS ONE (2025), the median man in the 624-user Brno network received 1 expression of interest, while the median woman received 18. In Kreager's data from a mid-sized southwestern city, men sent 142,444 first messages and women sent 34,960.
Men describe that imbalance plainly. In interviews with men aged 18 to 28, Albury, McCosker and Evers (First Monday, 2021) found that failure and rejection were "an almost expected experience" of dating apps for young male users, and many felt the odds were stacked against them. A playful line from someone else reverses the usual direction.
One caution. In an experiment with 180 heterosexual men, Rerick, Livingston and Singer (Behavioral Sciences, 2025) found that men rated an attractive woman's ambiguous behaviour as signalling more sexual intent when it was aimed at them rather than at another man, and the authors point to direct verbal communication as the way to clarify intentions. So say what you mean: "I'd like to get a drink with you" beats a wink and a riddle.
One gap we could not close: we found no open-access, peer-reviewed study on how men feel when they receive a compliment. The studies above measure who moves first and how it is read, not how the compliment itself feels.
32 Halloween pickup lines for him, sorted by situation
Every line below is original and clean. Each group names who it suits and how to deliver it, because a line he cannot answer ends the conversation it was meant to start.
1. A crush at a costume party
These suit a guy you have noticed across the room but not yet spoken to. Say one line in person, then ask about his costume so he has an easy answer.
- "Your costume is the only one here I had to ask about. So, who are you supposed to be?"
- "I've walked past you three times pretending to look at the snacks. This is me giving up on the snacks."
- "Ten out of ten costume. Eleven if you tell me you made it yourself."
- "I came as a witch, and my one prediction tonight is that you'll laugh at this. Was I right?"
- "Is that a werewolf costume, or did you come straight from a bad hair day?"
- "Everyone here is pretending to be someone else. I'd rather meet the guy under the mask."
- "Someone said this house has a haunted room. Want to check if it's real, or are you scared?"
- "Quick poll: best Halloween candy. A wrong answer ends this conversation."
- "You're the first skeleton tonight who looks like he has a personality."
- "I'm terrible at small talk but excellent at judging costumes. Yours is winning."
2. A guy on a dating app
These suit a match who has not messaged yet. Every line ends in a question, because in Kreager's data only 7% of the messages women sent led to more than five exchanges.
- "Your third photo has a pumpkin in it, so I need the story: carved it yourself or bought it already scary?"
- "Compatibility test: horror movie under a blanket, or haunted house and screaming?"
- "Be honest. Are you a full-costume guy or a cat-ears-at-the-last-minute guy?"
- "I've decided you'd make a convincing vampire. Night owl or early riser?"
- "Every profile says 'loves horror movies.' Prove it: which one actually scared you?"
- "Rank them: candy corn, caramel apples, mini chocolate bars. This decides everything."
- "You look like someone who hands out full-size candy bars. Am I right?"
- "Halloween plans: party, horror marathon, or pretending you're not home when the doorbell rings?"
3. Your boyfriend
These suit someone who already knows you like him, so the job is teasing, not persuading. Send them by text on 31 October or the week before.
- "You're the only monster I'd let hog the blanket during a horror movie."
- "You'd make a terrible ghost. You can't even leave a room quietly."
- "Every year you promise to dress up, and every year you wear a T-shirt that says 'costume'. Still mine."
- "If you were a pumpkin, I'd carve your name into mine. Oh wait, I already did."
- "You're the trick and the treat, and I genuinely can't tell which one you are today."
- "You scream louder than me at horror movies, and I'd still pick you to survive with."
- "Will you be my boo again this year? Asking for a ghost who already knows the answer."
- "You've been haunting my head since the day we met, and I've stopped trying to get rid of you."
4. Your husband
These suit a guy you have shared years of Halloweens with. They lean on rituals you both recognise.
- "Years married and you still can't choose a costume in under an hour. Some mysteries never die."
- "You're my favourite person to hand out candy with, and my least favourite to share the leftovers with."
- "I married a man who checks the locks twice on Halloween. Most romantic thing I know."
- "Our first Halloween together, you wore the worst costume in the room. I'd marry it again."
- "Kids in bed, candy hidden, horror movie queued. Will you be my boo for the next two hours?"
- "Every 31 October reminds me I picked the right person to be scared next to."
Which line fits where: party, app, text or a page?
The table compares the four places a Halloween line for him usually goes. Each row carries the measured number that matters most there.
| Where the line goes | Length that works | Measured number | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Costume party, in person | One line, then a question | Median man received 1 expression of interest vs 18 for the median woman (Brno, 624 users) | Topinkova and Diviak, 2025 |
| Dating-app opener | One line ending in a question | Women sent 34,960 first messages, men 142,444 | Kreager et al., 2014 |
| Text to your boyfriend or husband | One or two sentences | 48.3% of shared pages opened on a phone | SubhSandesh, measured 2026-09-24 |
| A private Halloween page for him | Letter, up to six photos, one question | 38.5% of creators add a password; 90.9% of started pages get published | SubhSandesh, measured 2026-09-24 |
For a new guy, the line is short and spoken. For a boyfriend or husband, a line can grow into something he opens and keeps.
How do you deliver a Halloween line to a guy so it lands?
Deliver one line, then a question, then stop. Kreager's figure that only 3% of men's and 7% of women's messages reached more than five exchanges shows how fast a conversation dies without a hook.
Make your intent plain. The 180-man experiment above suggests ambiguous signals get over-read, so a clear "I'd like to see you again" is kinder to both of you than a hint.
Keep it clean. Several top-ranking Halloween lists mix in explicit lines, and we left those out on purpose: a clean line works in a group chat, at a work party and as a first message.
"Will you be my boo?": the follow-up once he smiles
If the line works on a boyfriend or husband, the interactive Halloween card with a "Will you be my boo?" question turns it into a five-minute gift. You add his name and yours, a letter, up to six photos and a word to carve. He knocks three times, chooses trick or treat, carves a jack-o'-lantern until your word glows, finds your photos behind foggy portraits, reads your letter by flashlight and brews a potion from three to five memories.
Then comes the question, editable up to 60 characters. The No button runs away a few times, and you get an email the first time he answers, with how many times No "ghosted" him first.
He ends with a Boo License, a 1,080 by 1,920 card stamped "Valid every 31 October, forever". Across the platform, 90.9% of started pages are published and shared.
Want more room? The premium Halloween page adds a voice note up to 60 seconds, up to 12 photos, a letter up to 3,000 characters, an optional unlock time and a reply box for one 280-character answer. If the puns have run their course, the "I love you" page says it straight; 1,182 have been made, 22.7% of everything created on SubhSandesh.
When a pickup line, or a Halloween page, is the wrong move
A page is wrong for a guy you have not spoken to yet. A link full of your photos from a near-stranger is too much, and a No button that runs away is a joke between partners, not a way to ask someone who has not said yes in person.
It is not a party tool either. The Halloween card is a one-person greeting page with partner, bestie, family and kids modes, not an invitation for a crowd or a way to find a date, and its interface is English only. With a coworker, or a guy who does not pick up the thread, one line is the limit.
