Halloween Trivia for Kids: 40 Questions by Age, Easy to Harder
These 40 Halloween trivia questions for kids come in three age bands: 12 yes-or-no questions for ages 5 to 7, 14 multiple-choice questions for 8 to 10, and 14 harder ones for 11 to 13. Every answer has a one-line reason from a named source, checked on 15 October 2026.
The questions are short on purpose: SubhSandesh hosts 5,199 personalised greeting pages, and 48.3% of their views happen on a phone, and a phone is how most parents read a quiz aloud. Below: the questions, a topic table, a way to run mixed ages, and when to use something else.
What makes Halloween trivia right for kids?
Halloween trivia for kids is a set of short questions about the animals, plants, sky and customs of late October, pitched at what a child can see or reason out. Good answers are true, checkable and not frightening.
That rules out a lot of what ranks. Two ranking kids' quizzes we read on 15 October 2026 give "Ireland" or "Celtic" as the single answer to where Halloween came from, which historians still argue over. This set sticks to animals, pumpkins, the 2026 and 2027 moon, and customs printed in a dated 1919 book.

Older children can play the younger rounds as warm-ups. Each answer names its source in brackets or a link.
Ages 5 to 7: 12 yes-or-no and point-to-it questions
Read each aloud. Children shout yes or no, hold up fingers, or point at a drawing.
- Is a bat a kind of bird? No. Bats are mammals, says Bat Conservation International (BCI).
- Does a mother bat raise one baby a year, or ten? One. Most species give birth to a single pup yearly (BCI).
- Hold up fingers: does a spider have six legs or eight? Eight. Spiders are arachnids, not insects, per the Australian Museum's spider factsheet.
- Point to where a spider's silk comes out: front or back? The back. Spinnerets sit on the abdomen.
- Can a spider chew its dinner? No. It turns food into liquid with digestive juices, then sucks it up.
- Does a barn owl go "hoo-hoo"? No. It screeches and hisses, says the Barn Owl Trust; a hooting British owl is usually a tawny owl.
- Do bees help pumpkins grow? Yes. They carry pollen from male flowers to female ones, per Illinois Extension's pumpkin guide.
- Can a pumpkin flower have a tiny pumpkin under it? Yes. Female flowers sit on a small baby fruit; male flowers don't.
- Is every ripe pumpkin orange? No. Most varieties ripen orange, but not all (Illinois Extension).
- Is the moon full on Halloween 2026? No. It was full on 26 October; on the 31st it is about two-thirds lit, per US Naval Observatory (USNO) moon-phase data.
- Long ago in Scotland, did children carve lanterns from turnips? Yes. Ruth Kelley's The Book of Hallowe'en (1919) describes candle-lit turnip faces.
- Is the day after Halloween called All Saints' Day? Yes. Kelley calls Halloween the eve of All Hallows, the saints' day on 1 November.

- To the Welsh, November Eve was: (a) New Year's Eve (b) harvest day (c) a king's birthday. (a): Kelley's "Nos-Galan-Gaeof", the night before winter's first day.
Ages 11 to 13: 14 harder questions with no options
Score one point per answer. Give half a point for a number within about 10%.
- How long did the oldest known bat, a Brandt's myotis, live? At least 41 years (BCI).
- How many Mexican free-tailed bats gather at Bracken Cave, Texas, the world's largest bat colony? Up to 20 million in summer (BCI).
- How many bat species are known? Accept 1,400 to 1,500-plus: BCI's page prints both figures, because counts change as species are described.
- How far must a minnow's fin poke above a pond for a fishing bat to detect it? About 2 mm, by echolocation (BCI).
- Spiders and insects share which group, Earth's largest? Arthropods, with hard outer skeletons and jointed limbs (Australian Museum).
- About how many spider species live in Australia? About 3,600, a few deadly to people (Australian Museum).

- Which two church days follow Halloween? All Saints' Day, 1 November, and All Souls' Day, 2 November (Kelley).
The five Halloween trivia topics compared
The table splits the 40 questions by topic and band, with the source that settles each. Drop any topic that doesn't suit your group.
| Topic | Questions (5–7 / 8–10 / 11–13) | Source checked | Number children argue about |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bats and owls | 3 / 6 / 4 | BCI (Feb 2026); Barn Owl Trust (Aug 2026) | 20 million bats in one cave |
| Spiders | 3 / 2 / 2 | Australian Museum (reviewed Aug 2026) | 3,600 Australian species |
| Pumpkins | 3 / 3 / 2 | Illinois Extension (undated) | A male flower lasts 1 day |
| The moon | 1 / 1 / 3 | USNO, 2026 and 2027 | 5% lit on 31 Oct 2027 |
| Customs | 2 / 2 / 3 | Kelley, 1919 | 1 and 2 November |
Bats and owls carry the most questions because children already have opinions about them. Only the moon round dates, so recheck it after 2027.
How to run Halloween trivia with mixed ages
Make teams of three or four, mixing age bands. Each question goes first to the child it was written for: alone earns 2 points, with team help 1. That stops one 12-year-old answering everything.
Then add a boomerang round. Reviewing four experiments with preschool children, Leonard and Deevy (2020) found that words practised by repeated spaced retrieval were recalled better than words re-studied or retrieved straight away, in children with and without a language impairment.
- Boomerang round: after a snack break, re-ask five first-half questions.
- Pictures count: the study also tested recall by picture pointing, so a pointed answer scores in full.
- Timing: about 40 seconds per question, roughly 30 minutes in all (our estimate).
- Tie-breaker: question 28; the closest guess to 20 million wins.
Sending a Halloween card to the quiz champion
SubhSandesh does not run quizzes or invite groups. Its two Halloween pages greet one person, such as the champion.
The interactive Halloween card with a Kids tone takes about 5 minutes and holds up to six photos. Its Kids tone is spooky-cute, with round blushing ghosts and no blood, gore or jump scares, and the No button waits as "maybe later?".
The cinematic Halloween page with a 60-second voice note takes about 10 minutes and adds up to 12 photos, an optional unlock time and a 280-character reply box; for kids the No button never appears. Since 38.5% of creators password-protect a page before sharing, add one to any page carrying a child's photos. For other occasions, the full template gallery lists every page type.
When this quiz is the wrong choice
- Toddlers: we have not tested even the yes-or-no band on toddlers.
- Children afraid of spiders: drop questions 3 to 5, 17, 18, 31 and 32.
- A film or sweets crowd: there are no film or candy-brand questions.
- Southern hemisphere groups: the planting answers follow Illinois seasons.
- A whole class: our pages greet a single person, in English; print the questions instead.
