- • A strong Halloween wish has three parts: their name, one memory only you two share, and a sign-off that fits the channel.
- • 48.3% of SubhSandesh page views happen on a phone (platform-wide), so texts should fit a notification preview: roughly 5–20 words.
- • 7 p.m. on 31 October in New York is 4:30 a.m. on 1 November in India and 10 a.m. in Sydney, so send to Asia and Australia during your morning.
- • In a 958-person randomised experiment, letters to a specific person beat generic gratitude lists, which did no better than a control task.
- • For someone who doesn't celebrate, drop the spooky part and keep the warmth: a calm end-of-October note works.

Happy Halloween Wishes: 66 Original Lines by Person and Channel
The best happy Halloween wish fits in two lines: their name, one thing only you two share, and a sign-off that suits the channel. Below are 66 original happy Halloween wishes, sorted by recipient and by channel, plus a three-part formula and 31 October timing across time zones.
Keep them short: across all SubhSandesh pages, 48.3% of views happen on a phone. People also reread messages they like: the average page here is viewed 11.1 times, so the specific memory matters more than the pun. Both figures are platform-wide, not Halloween data.
What is a Halloween wish, and how is it different from a card message?
A Halloween wish is a short, warm message sent on or just before 31 October to one person or household. A card message is the same wish, longer and handwritten.
In a 2024 study of golden-age Halloween postcards (about 1900 to 1920), Adrienne Darrah of Penn State notes a postcard cost 1¢ to buy and 1¢ to mail, against 3¢ to post a greeting card, and that US postcard sales passed one billion by 1909. Postcards had no envelope, so every line was public.

24 Halloween wishes by channel: card, text, email and voice note
A card has room for a memory; a text should fit a notification preview; an email sign-off is one line; a voice note runs 15 to 20 seconds. Cards have long mixed the macabre with the merry. Theatre historian Matthew McMahan wrote in The Conversation (22 December 2020) that the first Christmas card, usually credited to Henry Cole, was a run of 1,000 in 1843, and that joke cards record how people really feel.
Halloween card messages
- Dear [name], Halloween always means [memory]. Hope tonight brings a new one.
- To my best trick-or-treat partner: the bags got smaller, the friendship didn't.
- Inside: zero ghosts, one hug, and a reminder that you're loved.
- For [name], who makes every season less scary. Love from all of us.
- Thank you for [specific thing] this year. It meant a lot.
- May your pumpkin glow and your porch stay egg-free.
Halloween texts to send
- Happy Halloween! Costume photo or it didn't happen.
- Boo. That's the whole text.
- Eat one for me, the good kind, not the raisins.
- Thinking of you and our [year] costume. Happy Halloween!
- Spooky check-in: hiding from trick-or-treaters, or giving full-size bars?
- Who's finishing the candy corn this year, you or the bin?
Halloween email sign-offs
- Have a happy, not-too-haunted Halloween,
- Wishing you a treat-filled evening,
- Signing off before the ghosts clock in,
- Boo, and best regards,
- Hope your 31 October is all treats,
- Spooky regards from [team],
Halloween voice-note scripts
- "Hi [name], just passed a giant skeleton and thought of you. Happy Halloween!"
- "Knock knock. No costume, just my voice saying happy Halloween."
- "Halloween report: [dog] went as [costume], candy stolen, one pumpkin collapsed."
- "It's morning there, I know. I wanted you to hear happy Halloween."
- "Happy Halloween, Gran. We carved your pattern again: still a surprised cat."
- "Costume photo within the hour, [name], or I tell everyone about [year]."
How to write your own Halloween wish in 3 parts
Name, one specific memory, sign-off. The memory does the work.
In a randomised experiment with 958 Australian adults (Regan, Walsh and Lyubomirsky, Affective Science, 2023), people who wrote gratitude letters to particular individuals reported stronger gratitude and positive emotion than list-writers, and the lists did no better than a control task. It measured the writer, not the recipient, but the direction is clear: specific beats generic.
Worked example 1, best friend:
- Greeting: "Happy Halloween, Priya!"
- Memory: "Still laughing that we went as salt and pepper and everyone guessed ketchup."
- Sign-off: "Same time next year? Sam."
Worked example 2, a dad far away:
- Greeting: "Happy Halloween, Dad."
- Memory: "Mum sent me your wonky-eyebrow pumpkin. It's my lock screen now."
- Sign-off: "Talk Sunday. Love, Aisha."
When to send Halloween wishes: 31 October and time zones
Halloween is 31 October every year: a Saturday in 2026, a Sunday in 2027. Text in the late afternoon; post cards to arrive by 30 October.
For family abroad, send for their evening. Per the IANA time zone database, 7 p.m. on 31 October in New York is 11 p.m. in London, 4:30 a.m. on 1 November in India and 10 a.m. on 1 November in Sydney, in 2026 and 2027. UK clocks go back on 25 October 2026, and on Halloween morning itself in 2027.
Most people leave it late: in our nearest analogue, Raksha Bandhan 2026, 49.4% of 89 pages were built on the day itself. That is a small, non-Halloween sample.
| Channel | Good length | When to send | SubhSandesh measurement (platform-wide) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Text | 5–20 words | 4–6 p.m. their time | 48.3% of page views are on a phone |
| Voice note | 15–20 seconds | Their early evening | Not measured |
| Card | 25–60 words | Arrives by 30 October | Not measurable offline |
| Interactive page | Letter plus up to 6 photos | Link sent by their evening | 11.1 average views per page; 90.9% of started pages published |
Texts win on speed. Only the page row has a measured reread figure.
A Halloween wish that is a whole page
When two lines feel too small, the interactive Halloween card turns a wish into a little haunted house. Add both names, a letter, up to six photos and a word to carve, or let the AI write it from a description. They knock three times, carve a jack-o'-lantern until your word glows, wipe fog off portraits to find your photos, read your letter by flashlight and brew a potion from three to five memories.
Partner, bestie, family or kids mode changes the closing question; the default "Will you be my boo?" is editable up to 60 characters, and you get an email when they first answer. For another time zone, the premium Halloween page adds an optional unlock time, showing only their name and a countdown until then, plus a voice note up to 60 seconds. Both end with a downloadable Boo License.
When a short wish beats a Halloween page
A page is a one-person greeting, not a party invitation or office broadcast. For coworkers, neighbours or group chats, send a line from above; "Will you be my boo?" is wrong for your manager.
The interface is English only, and 48.3% of views come from phones. For a grandparent who never opens links, a card wins.
