    Key takeaways

    • Rakhi 2027 falls on Tuesday 17 August 2027, and it is a gazetted public holiday in only nine states and union territories — so most brothers will be sending these wishes from work.
    • Raksha Bandhan 2028 moves to Saturday 5 August, which is why a message worth writing keeps its date in one editable line rather than scattered through the text.
    • SubhSandesh has recorded 2,973 personalised pages across 15 page types from 2,466 registered creators, and 99.4% of started pages get published and shared (2,956 of 2,973).
    • Shared pages average 12.2 views each and 51.1% are opened on a phone (18,497 of 36,202 views), so a link only works if she has her own phone to open it on.

Rakhi 2027 Wishes for Your Sister, Sent on a Working Tuesday

Rakhi 2027 falls on Tuesday, 17 August 2027 — Shravana Shukla Purnima, per the Samvat panchang for 2027 — and it is a gazetted holiday in only nine states and union territories. Most brothers reading this will be sending their rakhi 2027 wishes for a sister from a desk, between meetings, on an ordinary working day.

So the lines below are built for that: short enough to type in a gap, specific enough that she can tell you wrote them.

Two numbers from our own side of it. SubhSandesh has recorded 2,973 personalised pages created across 15 page types by 2,466 registered creators since March 2026, and 99.4% of started pages are published and shared (2,956 of 2,973). People finish things they write for a sibling. This page covers the date, which states get the day off, seven wishes by situation, what each option costs on a workday, and how to re-date the message for 2028.

What a rakhi wish from a brother actually is

A rakhi wish for a sister is the return half of the ritual: the message a brother sends back after the thread is tied, or the stand-in for the thread when nobody is in the same room. Unlike the rakhi itself it has no fixed form and no prescribed words.

That direction is the unusual part. Family research calls this work kinkeeping — buying presents, relaying family news, organising the gathering, checking in when something is wrong — and it has been measured as women's work for four decades. Hornstra and Ivanova's 2023 study in Sex Roles, using the OKiN survey across 2,738 Dutch families, found mothers and stepmothers at the centre of it, with substantial gaps between mothers and fathers in how much kinkeeping they did at all.

A brother who writes first is doing the thing that literature barely records.

Rakhi 2027 is Tuesday 17 August, and a working day in most of India

Raksha Bandhan 2027 is Tuesday 17 August. It appears as a public holiday in Chhattisgarh, Daman & Diu, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh — nine states and union territories on the PublicHolidays.in listing for Raksha Bandhan, and nowhere else.

If you work in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata or Delhi, 17 August 2027 is a Tuesday with a standup on it. Your sister may have the day off while you do not, or the reverse.

The phone makes that survivable in both directions. UK time-diary research by Mullan and Wajcman found that 7.9% of employed adults reported work extension on a workday in 2015, up from 5.3% in 2000, and that close to half of all recorded work time was carried out while using a device. The same boundary that lets work into your evening lets a rakhi message out of your Tuesday morning.

Practically: you have about twenty minutes, probably before 10am or after 8pm.

Seven rakhi 2027 wishes for your sister, by where you'll be at 10am

Each one gives the situation, the line, and how long it takes to send.

    1. She tied it this morning and you are already at your desk

The tilak is done, you left the house, and you owe her something before lunch. Send: "Thread's still on. Three people have asked about it already. Thank you for coming over before work — I know what that costs on a Tuesday." Forty seconds. A short reply the same morning reads better than a long one at 9pm, and she will notice which one you chose.

    2. She is in another city and nobody tied anything

Either a rakhi came by courier or nothing arrived at all. Send: "No thread this year, so this has to hold instead: you are still the person I call first when something goes wrong. Happy Raksha Bandhan, 17 August 2027, from too far away." One minute. Putting the date in the message makes it findable — she can scroll back to it next August.

    3. She is abroad and the time zones do not line up

Tuesday 17 August in India is Monday night or Tuesday dawn where she is. Send: "Sending this at 9am my Tuesday so it is waiting when you wake up. Happy Rakhi. Tell me what you ate." One minute. Send early rather than at your own evening — a message that lands mid-morning her time gets answered; one that lands at 3am gets buried under notifications.

    4. You are the younger brother

She has been the protective one, so the standard "I will always protect you" line is simply false. Send: "You have been doing the protecting since 2009 and we both know it. This year I am just saying thank you properly." Forty seconds. Naming an actual year is what stops it reading like a forward.

    5. It is her first Raksha Bandhan after her wedding

She is married and the tying happens in another house now. Send: "First rakhi where I do not get to be in the room. The house is quieter and everyone has noticed. Come home in December." One minute. An invitation with a month attached does more work than any adjective.

    6. You forgot until 7pm

The day is nearly gone and an apology is now part of the message. Send: "Late, and no excuse. Happy Raksha Bandhan. I am calling you tomorrow at 8 — pick up." Thirty seconds. Do not explain. A commitment with a time on it repairs more than a paragraph of sorry.

    7. You want one line for a status, not a message

Public, no name, reusable. Send: "One thread. Seventeen years of being outnumbered. Worth it." Twenty seconds. Keep names out and it can be re-posted on 5 August 2028 without a single edit.

If any of these deserves more than a text box, the Raksha Bandhan page for a sister takes her name, a photo and the message and hands you one link. That matters because 51.1% of shared pages are opened on a phone (18,497 of 36,202 views) — the link is the format she will actually be holding.

Text, call or a page: what each costs on a working Tuesday

This compares the four things a brother realistically does on 17 August 2027, with what we can and cannot measure about each.

OptionTime to sendCostEvidence it gets opened
Forwarded WhatsApp line10 seconds₹0None — a forward leaves no record
Typed message with her name in it60–90 seconds₹0None — same
    Voice note2–3 minutes₹0None — same
Shared page with photo, name and message10–20 minutes to buildFree tier12.2 average views per created page across 2,973 pages; 44.2% are password-protected first (1,315 of 2,973)

The trade is blunt. The forwarded line costs ten seconds and vanishes into the scroll; the page costs twenty minutes and gets reopened roughly a dozen times. If a rakhi page is not the shape of what you want, the full SubhSandesh template list covers all fifteen page types.

Why the brother is rarely the one who writes first

Voorpostel and Blieszner's 2008 study in the Journal of Marriage and Family used a Dutch national sample of 1,259 sibling-and-parent triads. Sister–sister pairs were the most common dyad in the data at 37%. Women were more likely to exchange emotional support with a sibling — but the interaction effect showed that this held only with sisters.

That is a finding about Dutch families in 2008, and I will not pretend it transfers cleanly to a household in Kanpur. What it establishes is that the brother-to-sister emotional channel is the least-documented of the four possible pairs, which is exactly what the rakhi ritual itself assumes: she ties, she initiates, he responds with a gift rather than words.

Which is most of why a written wish from a brother lands at all. It inverts the default.

Write it once, re-date it: Raksha Bandhan 2028 and after

Raksha Bandhan moves with Shravana Purnima, so the date shifts every year. In 2028 it falls on Saturday 5 August, per the same holiday listing — a weekend rakhi, which is a different problem entirely. You will probably be in the same room, and a typed message matters less than showing up.

So write the message with the date in exactly one place. Anything with "2027" threaded through four sentences has to be rewritten next year; anything with a single dated line at the end can be re-sent after one edit.

The same logic applies to a page. The sister rakhi template keeps her name and photos and lets you change the year and re-send the same link, which is the difference between a page you maintain and a page you rebuild.

When a message from you is the wrong thing to send

Three cases where this entire page is the wrong advice.

If she is in the same house on 17 August 2027, put the phone down. A link sent across a dining table is worse than saying nothing at all.

If she does not have her own smartphone, or shares one with the household, a page behind a link fails. Half our reach is mobile — 51.1% of 36,202 recorded views — which is another way of saying a link needs a phone in her hand to exist. Print it and hand it over instead.

And if there is a genuine rift between you, a rakhi message will not close it. A dated apology in October, attached to nothing festive, is far more likely to be believed than a warm line sent on the one day of the year when everybody is sending warm lines.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Rakhi — Raksha Bandhan — falls on Tuesday, 17 August 2027. It is Shravana Shukla Purnima, the full moon of the month of Shravana, which is why the Gregorian date moves every year.
Only in nine states and union territories: Chhattisgarh, Daman & Diu, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. Everywhere else, 17 August 2027 is a normal working Tuesday.
One specific thing she actually did, and one thing you will do next. A dated detail — a year, a month, an incident — is what separates a written message from a forwarded one, and it takes about forty seconds.
"Thread's still on. Three people have asked about it already." Short lines land better on a workday than long ones, because the reply arrives while she is still thinking about the morning.
Before 10am if you can, or after 8pm. It is a Tuesday in most of India, so the middle of the day belongs to work for at least one of you.
Send it early on your Tuesday morning so it lands in her mid-morning or is waiting when she wakes. A message that arrives at 3am her time gets buried under overnight notifications.
It is fine, and she will know. A forward costs ten seconds and leaves no record; a typed line with her name and one detail costs sixty seconds and is the only version she can screenshot.
Skip the protection line — she has probably been doing that. Thank her for something specific and put a year on it, which is what makes the message legible as yours.
Acknowledge that you are not in the room, and give her a month to come home in. An invitation with a date attached does more than any adjective about bonds.
Saturday, 5 August 2028. That is a weekend rakhi, which changes the problem — you are more likely to be in the same room, so a typed message matters less than showing up.
Yes, if you keep the date in one place rather than threaded through the text. A line with no name and no year in it can be re-posted in 2028 without a single edit.
No. The gift is the traditional return for the thread, but a courier needs two to six days of lead time and 17 August 2027 is a Tuesday. A message you actually wrote arrives on the day.
