Spider Captions for Instagram, Sorted by the Photo You Took
The right spider captions for Instagram depend on what is in the photo, so here are 52 original lines in eight photo types: costume, web makeup, dewy webs, porch décor, pet tarantulas, "I hate spiders" posts, kids, and couples or groups. They double as Halloween spider captions, and they are short on purpose: on SubhSandesh, 48.3% of shared pages are opened on a phone.
Some spider photos are better sent to one person, and 38.5% of SubhSandesh creators password-protect a page before sharing it. Below: captions, museum-checked facts, a photo-to-caption table, a note on spider fear and a private way to send the photo.
What is a spider caption, and why sort it by photo?
A spider caption is a short, original line under a photo of a spider, a web or a spider costume, saying something the picture cannot. Sorting by photo matters because a dewy garden web and a pet tarantula want opposite tones: one quiet, the other proud.
Spiders have eight walking legs and usually eight eyes, says the Australian Museum, but a caption that only counts legs reads like every other post. The lines below use the number sparingly.
52 spider captions for Instagram, sorted by photo type
Each photo type gets six or seven clean lines. Every group names its tone and best shot.
1. Spider costume
Playful and self-aware. Get every extra leg in frame.
- Eight legs on the costume, two on the dance floor.
- Stuffed tights for legs and a very committed attitude.
- Black hoodie, pipe-cleaner limbs, no regrets whatsoever.
- Came as a spider so nobody would sit next to me. It worked.
- This costume needed four pairs of sleeves and one patient tailor.
- Every hug tonight comes with bonus limbs.
2. Spider-web makeup and nails
Detail-proud. Shoot close, in daylight.
- Drew the web freehand and only restarted twice.
- Ten nails, ten tiny webs, one very steady hand.
- An eyeliner wing that grew into a whole web.
- A cobweb on each cheekbone and a spider resting on the brow.
- Nail art so neat the spider in the corner asked for lessons.
- Face paint by me, design inspired by the shed window.
- Fine lines on the lids, glitter dew in the corners.
3. Dewy webs at dawn
Quiet and observant. Shoot early, against the light.
- Woke up early; the garden had strung its pearls overnight.
- Morning dew, threaded and hung out to dry.
- Somebody worked the night shift on the gate.
- Every droplet on this web is holding a tiny sunrise.
- The fence wore lace this morning.
- Frosted silk, cold coffee, best twenty minutes of October.
- Nearly walked through an art installation before breakfast.
4. Halloween house décor webs
Wry about the effort. A wide porch shot at dusk works.
- Stretched one bag of fake web across the entire porch. Ambitious.
- The porch is decorated; the real spiders are reviewing the work.
- Hung the cobwebs on purpose this time.
- Dusting is officially cancelled until November.
- Our front door now looks unopened since 1890.
- Plastic spiders on every banister, real ones unimpressed.
5. Pet tarantula
Proud, because owners are used to the gasps. A calm macro shot is ideal.
- Meet my roommate. She pays no rent and judges my plants.
- Eight hairy legs and the calmest temperament in the flat.
- She moulted this week, so she is basically brand new.
- Her costume this year: none. She is already the scariest guest.
- Low maintenance for me, high drama for visitors.
- Fuzzy, slow and deeply misunderstood.
- Not a Halloween prop. A long-term flatmate.
6. "I hate spiders" funny captions
Honest panic, played for laughs. Post a candid of you, not the spider.
- Saw one in the bath and moved out for the evening.
- My Halloween décor is plastic spiders only, thank you.
- Agreed to the spider theme on condition it stays plastic.
- Brave enough for the costume, not brave enough for the shed.
- Shrieked at a hair tie. Long autumn ahead.
- Glass and postcard on standby since September.
- The shed belongs to them now, and I accept the terms.
7. Itsy-bitsy captions for kids
Sweet, nothing creepy. Shoot at the child's eye level.
- Smallest spider on the street, biggest candy bucket.
- Our little crawler learned to count to eight today.
- Itsy-bitsy, extra sweet, and not sharing the chocolate.
- Eight felt legs, one gap-toothed grin.
- Tiny spider, giant trick-or-treat plans.
- The friendliest web-builder in the whole classroom.
8. Couple and group "web" captions
Affectionate, built on being connected. Use a two-shot or group photo.
- We are tangled together and neither of us wants out.
- Two spiders, sixteen legs, one shared blanket.
- She brought the web, I brought the snacks.
- Eight friends, one spider, a very wide photo.
- Partners in silk.
- Group costume: one giant spider. I'm leg number five.
Spider facts from two museums and a 2010 silk study, as caption hooks
A fact hook pairs a short, true detail with your photo, so the caption reads as considered rather than copied. Each fact links to the museum page or open-access paper it came from.
- Autumn is when you notice them. The Natural History Museum's house spider guide says UK house spiders are mostly seen in autumn, when males leave their webs to look for females and wander in through windows, chimneys and gaps under doors. Hook: "He isn't moving in. He's just passing through on business."
- The males don't stay long. Males usually die in autumn soon after mating, while many females live into the next year (NHM). Hook: "An October houseguest, gone by bonfire night."
- Eight eyes, poor eyesight. The Australian Museum says spiders usually have eight eyes, some fewer, and most see poorly, relying on touch and vibration. Hook: "Eight eyes, and still didn't see the glass coming."
- The 28 cm spider. The Goliath spider (Theraphosa leblondi) reaches a 28 cm leg span, per the same museum. Hook: "Mine is smaller than a Goliath. She doesn't need to know that."
- "Stronger than steel" means tougher, not stronger. A 2010 PLOS ONE study by Agnarsson, Kuntner and Blackledge puts dragline silk toughness, the energy absorbed before breaking, near 150 MJ/m³, beating steel and Kevlar; Darwin's bark spider averaged 350 MJ/m³, over 10 times Kevlar at its best. Hook: "Built like spider silk: it bends, it doesn't snap."
Which spider caption fits which photo?
The table groups the eight photo types into five rows, each with a tone, a fact hook and one example. It is the fastest way to match line to picture.
| Photo type | Caption tone | Hook fact | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spider costume or web makeup | Playful, detail-proud | 8 walking legs, usually 8 eyes (Australian Museum) | "Eight legs on the costume, two on the dance floor." |
| Dewy web or house spider | Quiet, observant | Males wander indoors in autumn (NHM) | "The fence wore lace this morning." |
| Porch and staircase décor | Wry about the effort | Dragline silk toughness near 150 MJ/m³ (PLOS ONE, 2010) | "Hung the cobwebs on purpose this time." |
| Pet tarantula | Proud, a little nerdy | Goliath spider leg span up to 28 cm (Australian Museum) | "Not a Halloween prop. A long-term flatmate." |
| "I hate spiders", kids, couples | Funny, sweet or affectionate | Animal phobia: 3.8% lifetime (WMH Surveys, 2017) | "Glass and postcard on standby since September." |
The closer the camera gets to a real spider, the calmer the caption should be. Costumes and décor carry the jokes.
How common is fear of spiders, and who might be scrolling?
Across 25 population surveys in 22 countries (n = 124,902), the World Mental Health Surveys analysis by Wardenaar and colleagues (2017) found a 7.4% lifetime prevalence for any specific phobia. Animal fears were the most common subtype at 3.8%, a figure covering all animals, not spiders alone.
Spiders do lead the clinic queue. A 2025 BJPsych Open study of 1,017 patients at the South London and Maudsley found spiders were the most common adult animal phobia, 80 of 252 cases, ahead of mice and rats (43).
At 3.8%, a 300-follower account matching the survey population would hold about 11 people who have had an animal phobia. So never send a spider close-up to a friend who has said they're scared, or post one as a surprise. On a carousel, put the spider on slide two so people choose to swipe.
How to send your spider photo to one person instead of posting it
A feed post reaches everyone, including the friend who cannot look at spiders. On SubhSandesh, 90.9% of started pages are published and shared, and a page averages 11.1 views, so a private link tends to be opened more than once.
The interactive Halloween card takes up to six photos, a letter and a word to carve on the pumpkin. The recipient knocks three times, carves a jack-o'-lantern, wipes fog off portraits to find your photos and reads your letter by flashlight. It ends on "Will you be my boo?" and a 1080×1920 Boo License, Instagram Story size.
It is built for one partner, best friend, family member or child, not a party. Its Kids tone turns the trick into confetti spiders with no jump scares, though the Boo License costumes (ghost, witch, vampire, pumpkin, black cat, skeleton, mummy, bat) include no spider. For a voice note up to 60 seconds and up to 12 photos, the premium cinematic Halloween page is the bigger version.
When a spider caption is the wrong choice
If you can't name the species, don't caption it as one. The NHM counts six common UK house species, and a confident "deadly" label on a harmless one spreads the fear the facts above undo.
A SubhSandesh page is also the wrong tool when you want strangers to see your work. It is a private link with an English-only interface, so a dew-web shot meant for photography fans belongs on your public grid.
