Witch Pickup Lines: 56 Clean, Witchy Openers Sorted by Trope
Witch pickup lines land when the magic is the joke and the compliment is sincere: you are "bewitched", and the line ends on something you really like about them. Here are 56 clean witch pickup lines, all original, in eight tropes from love potions and broomsticks to tarot and the crush who dresses witchy all year. Most get read on a screen: SubhSandesh sees 48.3% of shared pages opened on phones and 11.1 views per page (sitewide numbers, not Halloween ones).
After the lines come a channel table and the #WitchTok and tarot numbers behind the look. The last section covers when a witch joke misfires.
What is a witch pickup line?
A witch pickup line is a playful opener that borrows a witch trope: spells, potions, a broomstick, a cauldron, a black cat or a coven. "Bewitched" already means "smitten" in everyday English, so the costume does half the flirting.
In a 2016 experiment with 224 participants, DiDonato and Jakubiak found a target's positive humour raised attraction, especially for women, and people used less negative humour when they wanted something long-term. Keep it warm.
56 witch pickup lines in eight tropes
All original, all clean. Add one real detail, like their cat's name, and any line improves.
1. Spells and love-potion lines
After eye contact at a party. You confess the spell; they hear that you noticed.
- I checked my spell book twice, and there's no counter-charm for your laugh.
- Whatever enchantment you cast at the door, it hasn't worn off by the dips.
- I left my love potion at home on purpose. I'd rather you just liked me.
- Is your name part of a spell? I've repeated it three times since you said it.
- My grimoire says every charm needs one honest ingredient. Mine: I think you're great.
- You didn't need a wand. One "hi" and my whole evening rearranged itself.
- If this is a love potion, I'd like the recipe card and a second cup.
2. Broomstick and flying lines
For arrivals. The last one doubles as an invitation to walk.
- Does your broom have a passenger seat, or is there a waiting list?
- I'd offer you a lift, but my broom only seats one and a cat.
- Did you just land? The whole garden looked up at once.
- My broom keeps drifting toward your side of the room. I've stopped steering.
- Is there a speed limit on brooms? My pulse just broke it.
- Let's leave the broom here and walk somewhere slow enough to talk.
- Your broom parking is impeccable. Mind if I park beside you for a chat?
3. Cauldron and brew lines
Best near the drinks. A real pot helps.
- Whatever's in your cauldron smells like the best idea I've had all week.
- Room in that cauldron for one more ingredient? I'm mostly sweet.
- You stir, I'll read the recipe out loud badly. Deal?
- My cauldron only bubbles when you walk past. Pure coincidence, apparently.
- Double, double... sorry, I lost count of everything when you smiled.
- Pour me a ladle of whatever made you this charming.
- The best brew at this party is the conversation we're about to have.
4. Black cat and familiar lines
For a real cat or a cat costume. Mock yourself, never the cat.
- Your cat has inspected me twice. Do I pass, or is there a written test?
- Every witch needs a familiar. I'm house-trained and I bring snacks.
- Your black cat crossed my path, and honestly, my luck has only improved.
- I'd ask your familiar to introduce us, but he's ignoring me on purpose.
- If your cat approves of me by midnight, can I ask for your number?
- I came as a black cat so I'd have an excuse to trail after you. Mostly kidding.
- Nine lives, and I'd happily spend three of them talking to you.
5. Crystals, tarot and moon lines
For the witchy crush with a deck on the shelf. Be curious, not mocking: many take these practices seriously.
- I pulled the Lovers card this morning, so I came to find out why.
- Is that amethyst? I've felt calmer since you sat down.
- Your moon sign can stay a mystery. I'd just like your name for now.
- I don't read tarot, but I'd happily sit through a full spread if you're shuffling.
- My horoscope said "say the brave thing". So: hello, I like your rings.
- Which crystal do you carry for courage? I could use a loan right now.
- Put me down for a three-card reading: past, present and maybe coffee.
6. Coven and friends lines
Your crush came with a group. Charm the friends first.
- Is your coven taking applications? I can carry snacks and the playlist.
- Your friends have watched me for ten minutes. I assume that was the interview.
- I'd like to meet the coven properly before I ask you out. Fair?
- Three witches walked in together and I only lost the power of speech once.
- Tell your coven I come in peace, with a spare phone charger.
- My friends dared me to talk to the best witch here. I picked well.
- If your group has a newsletter, I'd like to subscribe and meet the editor.
7. Playful hex and curse lines
The curse falls on you, never on them. That keeps it light.
- Bad news: you've hexed me. Good news: the only symptom is grinning.
- Is there a curse where you can't stop thinking about someone? Asking for me.
- If this is a hex, please don't lift it before the party ends.
- Rate my curse: everyone else in this room has gone slightly out of focus.
- You hexed my small talk. All I can manage now is "you look great".
- I'd file a complaint about this spell, but I'd have to admit I like it.
8. Lines for a crush who dresses witchy
For someone whose velvet and silver rings are not a costume. Praise choices, not bodies.
- Velvet and silver rings: are you going somewhere, or is this just Tuesday?
- You dress like the witch in the story everyone secretly roots for.
- Your boots look ready for a forest walk. Can I come along?
- Every day looks like October on you. That's a compliment, I promise.
- Is that a vintage cloak? Tell me its story over coffee.
- You wear black like it's a colour with feelings.
- I have a theory that your wardrobe is enchanted. Can I investigate?
Why is "witchy" everywhere? #WitchTok and the 2025 tarot numbers
A 2022 study of #WitchTok by Chris Miller in Religions describes a corner of TikTok where Contemporary Pagans and modern Witches share spells, potions and altars, and where product promotion shows consumer culture shaping the practice (abstract read; full text blocked).
Pew Research Center (21 May 2025) surveyed 9,593 US adults in October 2024: 30% consult astrology, tarot or a fortune teller yearly, and nearly a quarter of 18-to-29-year-olds consult tarot cards. Most say it is for fun. Hanna Tervanotko (The Conversation, 2025) notes tarot is not a religion and that part of its pull is visual.
Witchcraft can be a faith, though. Wicca is a modern Pagan religion, and the US National Cemetery Administration lists the Wicca pentacle as emblem of belief 37 for veterans' headstones. If your crush practises, try this instead:
- You said your practice matters to you, so no spell jokes. I'd just love to hear about it over tea.
Which witch line fits which channel?
Five trope groups compared by length and channel, with word ranges from this page's lines.
| Trope group | Line style (words) | Best channel | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spells, potions, hex | Self-mocking compliment, 10–15 | In person at a party | "You hexed my small talk." |
| Broomstick, cauldron | Question with an easy reply, 9–13 | In person, by the door or drinks | "Room in that cauldron for one more ingredient?" |
| Cat, crystals, tarot, moon | Curious question about their thing, 9–15 | DM or app reply to a photo | "Which crystal do you carry for courage?" |
| Coven and friends | Group-aware joke, 10–14 | In person, friends present | "Is your coven taking applications?" |
| Everyday witchy style | Specific compliment on a choice, 8–13 | Comment, text or first date | "You wear black like it's a colour with feelings." |
Questions about their cat, crystal or deck travel best in text, because the reply is built in.
From pickup line to a potion page on 31 October
Halloween is Saturday 31 October 2026 and Sunday 31 October 2027. If a line worked, the interactive Halloween card at /happy-halloween has the site's most witch-friendly step: they brew a potion from 3–5 memories you list.
Before the question "Will you be my boo?", they knock three times, carve a pumpkin and find your photos under fog. The Boo License at the end (1080×1920) shows the costume you pick, and witch is one of the eight. Across the site, 90.9% of started pages are published and shared.
The premium Halloween page adds a voice note of up to 60 seconds and up to 12 photos. Its love potion uses three memories, and a reply box lets them answer in up to 280 characters.
When a witch line, or a page, is the wrong move
Skip the witch jokes when the person practises witchcraft as a faith and has not said they enjoy them. Pew found most people using astrology or tarot do it for fun, so some do not.
A page greets one person you already know; it is no dating tool or party invite, and it is English-only. Beside your crush, say the line aloud: with 48.3% of opens on phones, links suit distance.
