The bear it stands in for carries its own story — the same explainer traces the name to US President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt, after a toy bear was designed to mark his refusal to shoot a tethered animal on a hunting trip. Why a teddy is genuinely hard to replace with a link

Most gifting pages will not tell you this, so here it is with citations. Holding the object appears to be the active ingredient, not owning it.

In a study of 45 participants aged 18 to 22 published on 29 December 2024, students who had a recognised attachment object were split into two groups during recovery from an induced stressor: one allowed to touch the object, one asked to carry it without touching it. Skip it too if she genuinely dislikes soft toys — plenty of people do, and buying the wrong object twice is worse than buying it once. And skip it if she is the kind of person who finds a link faintly corporate; the darling page reads darker and more dramatic if the standard romantic template is not her register, but if none of them are, that is a signal.
