- • Propose Day 2027 is Monday 8 February, the second of Valentine week's eight dated days.
- • Eleven lines are published here and thirteen were cut; ਮਾਹੀ went because its first attested dictionary sense is "a herdsman of buffaloes", and ਦੁਨੀਆ because the headword is glossed "Coriander".
- • Punjabi has two second persons: ਤੂੰ takes the auxiliary ਏਂ, ਤੁਸੀਂ takes ਹੋ. In the 5,508-token corpus checked here, ਤੁਸੀਂ appears 23 times and ਤੂੰ 3.
- • Six Gurmukhi letters have two valid encodings, which is why ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ returned zero dictionary headwords while ਜਿੰਦਗੀ returned one.

Propose Day Quotes in Punjabi, Checked Against a Dictionary
Propose Day 2027 falls on Monday 8 February, the second day of Valentine week, which opens with Rose Day on Sunday 7 February and closes on Sunday 14 February. Below are eleven Propose Day lines in Punjabi — Gurmukhi, Roman transliteration, English gloss — every content word looked up in a printed Punjabi–English dictionary and checked against two Gurmukhi corpora before it reached this page, with thirteen more drafted and cut, a reason given for each. The platform these get sent from has recorded 5,148 personalised pages created since 2026-03-12 across 21 page types, and 48.3% of its 56,886 views came from a phone — both platform-wide across all 21 page types, not proposal pages, because no proposal-specific figure exists here.
What a Propose Day quote in Punjabi actually is
It is a short line in Gurmukhi, the script Punjabi uses across Indian Punjab, stating the ask or the feeling behind it. Not a translated greeting card, and not a song lyric.
Three things separate a line you can send from one you copied: a script the reader's phone renders, the right level of address, and words that mean what you think. This page does the third in the open.
Every word below was checked in Singh's The Panjabi Dictionary (1895) via the Digital Dictionaries of South Asia, and every grammatical frame against the Universal Dependencies Punjabi-Rang and Punjabi-CS treebanks plus the Tatoeba Punjabi exports. Those instruments are small: 250 treebank sentences and 3,810 tokens, plus 217 Gurmukhi and 77 Shahmukhi Tatoeba sentences — 5,508 tokens all told, so the dictionary carries most of the weight.
11 Propose Day lines in Punjabi, with transliteration and gloss
1. Lines that use ਤੂੰ (tū̃) — the intimate second person
ਮੈਂ ਇਥੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਹਾਂ। · maĩ ithe tere laī hā̃ — "I am here for you." ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਏਂ, ਤੇ ਇਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੈ। · tū̃ mere nāl ẽ, te ih bahut hai — "You are with me, and that is plenty." ਮੇਰਾ ਦਿਲ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਹੈ। · merā dil tere kol hai — "My heart is with you." ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ। · maĩ tere vargā koī nahī̃ vekhiā — "I have never seen anyone like you."
Who it suits: someone you already talk to daily in Punjabi, without formality. Register: ਤੂੰ, intimate, auxiliary ਏਂ rather than ਹੈ. What was checked: ਦਿਲ glossed "Heart, mind, soul"; ਕੋਲ "Near, by, with, in the keeping or possession of"; ਵਰਗਾ "Like, resembling, equal to". The first line appears almost verbatim in Tatoeba. When not to use it: never on a first approach, never to someone older — ਤੂੰ from a stranger reads as rude, not warm.
2. Lines that use ਤੁਸੀਂ (tusī̃) — the respectful second person
ਕੀ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਹੈ? · kī tuhānū̃ mere utte bharosā hai? — "Do you trust me?" ਕੀ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰੋਗੇ? · kī tusī̃ mere nāl zindagī guzāroge? — "Will you spend a life with me?" ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਦੱਸ ਸਕਦੇ ਹੋ। · tusī̃ mainū̃ sabh kujh dass sakde ho — "You can tell me everything." ਮੈਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਹੋ। · maĩ cāhundā hā̃ ki tusī̃ mere nāl raho — "I want you to stay with me."
Who it suits: the commoner case — someone you like and are not yet intimate with. Register: ਤੁਸੀਂ, auxiliary ਹੋ, -ਓਗੇ future ending. What was checked: ਭਰੋਸਾ glossed "Belief, faith; trust, hope"; ਰਹਿਣਾ "To stay, to remain"; ਦੱਸਣਾ "To show, to direct, to tell". Line one is a verbatim Tatoeba sentence; the ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ … ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰੀ pairing comes out of the Punjabi-Rang treebank. When not to use it: if you already use ਤੂੰ here, switching to ਤੁਸੀਂ reads as a cold step back.
3. The ask itself
ਕੀ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਆਹ ਕਰੋਗੇ? · kī tusī̃ mere nāl viāh karoge? — "Will you marry me?" ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਬੁੱਢਾ ਹੋਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। · maĩ tere nāl buḍḍhā hoṇā cāhundā hā̃ — "I want to grow old with you." ਤੂੰ ਹਾਂ ਕਹਿ ਦੇ। · tū̃ hā̃ kahi de — "Just say yes."
Who it suits: only the first is a marriage proposal; the other two are the softer ask most Propose Day searches want. Register: mixed on purpose — the marriage question in ਤੁਸੀਂ, the rest in ਤੂੰ. What was checked: ਵਿਆਹ glossed "Marriage, a wedding", and attested in Tatoeba; ਬੁੱਢਾ "Old; an old man"; ਹਾਂ "Yes, indeed, very, exactly, well". When not to use it: a female speaker sending line two needs ਬੁੱਢੀ ਹੋਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੀ ਹਾਂ. Punjabi verbs agree with the speaker's gender, and a leftover masculine form is the commonest sign a line was copied.
If the ask really is marriage, the proposal scrapbook page is built for it — your story, then a YES button that grows every time they dodge it. If it is the softer ask, and in Indian usage "propose" usually is, the I love you page fits better: third most-created template here at 1,178 pages, 22.9% of everything created, and the most-viewed at 16,998 views, 29.9% of page views.
Both templates are English-language. Your Punjabi arrives because you paste these lines into the page's text fields, where they render as typed; the buttons and prompts stay English. That is the honest limit.
ਤੂੰ or ਤੁਸੀਂ: the choice a Punjabi reader notices first
Punjabi has two second-person pronouns, and the verb, auxiliary and possessive follow whichever you pick. ਤੂੰ takes ਏਂ, ਤੇਰਾ, ਤੈਨੂੰ; ਤੁਸੀਂ takes ਹੋ, ਤੁਹਾਡਾ, ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ. Getting one right and another wrong is what marks a machine translation.
In that 5,508-token corpus ਤੁਸੀਂ appears 23 times and ਤੂੰ only 3 — written corpora skew formal, which is why the intimate lines were checked against the treebank frame rather than assumed. The safe default for Propose Day is ਤੁਸੀਂ; you can move to ਤੂੰ later, and moving back is awkward.
Gurmukhi in India, Shahmukhi in Pakistan — and the dot that breaks search
Punjabi is written in two different systems. Chapter 12 of the Unicode Standard 17.0 puts it plainly: Gurmukhi "is used on an everyday basis in East Punjab. (West Punjab, now in Pakistan, uses the Arabic script.)" That Perso-Arabic form is Shahmukhi.
Your reader in India uses Gurmukhi, so everything above is Gurmukhi. It matters anyway: a line sent from Pakistan arrives in a script you likely cannot read, and the transliteration under every line works for either. The two are unequally supported — a 2026 PLOS ONE study building the first sentence-simplification corpus for Arabic-script Punjabi, reporting a SARI score of 45.3, calls that script "a linguistic facet that had previously received limited attention in natural language processing."
Inside Gurmukhi there is a second trap. Four modern spellings tried here — ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ, ਖ਼ਾਸ, ਇਸ਼ਕ, ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਨਾ — returned zero dictionary headwords; undotted ਜਿੰਦਗੀ, ਖਾਸ, ਇਸਕ, ਗੁਜਾਰਨਾ returned 1, 6, 1 and 2. The dot is the pairin bindi, "primarily used to differentiate Urdu or Persian loan words".
Six letters — ਲ਼ ਸ਼ ਖ਼ ਗ਼ ਜ਼ ਫ਼ — are encoded twice in the Unicode Character Database: once as one character, once as the plain letter plus U+0A3C GURMUKHI SIGN NUKTA. So one visible word can be two byte strings, and that, not a typo, is usually why a pasted Punjabi line finds nothing in a search box.
| How you send it | Renders as typed? | What the reader needs | Platform-wide figure, 21 page types |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pasted into a chat app | Yes, Gurmukhi is standard Unicode | a Gurmukhi font | 48.3% of 56,886 views here are on a phone |
| A screenshot | Yes, but nothing is selectable | nothing | — |
| A shared page | Yes, it is a web page | one link | 90.9% of started pages get shared, 4,679 of 5,148 |
A screenshot never breaks a font, and is the only route they cannot copy from.
Punjabi is tonal, which changes how the line sounds
Punjabi is unusual among Indo-Aryan languages in carrying lexical tone. An ACL 2022 paper on South Asian linguistic history names a "Punjabi-type" class of tonal systems — Punjabi, Hindko, some Gujari varieties, Himachali languages and Kishtwari — and says it "arises primarily from the disappearance of phonemic breathy voice."
So letters resembling Hindi's breathy consonants are not read that way in Punjabi. The Gurmukhi block even carries U+0A51 GURMUKHI SIGN UDAAT, which "indicates a high tone", though everyday writing never uses it — written Gurmukhi carries no tone marking, and the reader supplies it from knowing the word. Say the line aloud as well as sending it.
What got cut: 24 drafted, 11 published
Thirteen lines did not survive the dictionary:
- ਮਾਹੀ — first attested sense "a herdsman of buffaloes"; "a friend" second.
- ਢੋਲ — "A drum … a beloved (in the last sense used in poetry)." Drum first.
- ਦੁਨੀਆ — the headword is glossed "Coriander, Coriandrum sativum."
- ਸੰਗ — first sense "Shame."
- ਅਧੂਰਾ — "Half ready, half done … unfinished, defective." Not the emotional sense.
- ਵਾਅਦਾ, ਵਾਇਦਾ, ਵਾਦਾ, ਇਕਰਾਰ — all zero headwords, so no verified way here to write "I promise".
- ਯਾਰ — "A friend, an intimate, a lover … an adulterer; a paramour." Risky in writing.
Not one line here is a song lyric. Punjabi popular music owns this register more completely than any other Indian language's — which is exactly why these were built from dictionary words rather than borrowed.
When a Punjabi line is the wrong thing to send
If the person reads English more comfortably than Gurmukhi — common for Punjabi speakers raised outside Punjab — a Gurmukhi line is a performance aimed at you, not a message aimed at them. Send English.
If you are in the same room, say it. A link is worse than a sentence when they are in front of you.
On privacy: 38.5% of creators here password-protect a page before sharing, 1,983 of 5,148 — platform-wide, not proposal-specific. Every option is on the full template list.
